New paper on wid.world by @gatonievas & @PaulaDruschke finds that 70% of World Bank and IMF funds are allocated to G7 geopolitically aligned countries. Bottom line: rich countries pretend to be in favour of democracy but in practice they have built an undemocratic international system to benefit from the collective resources of global public goods, institutionalizing the political inequalities between global South and global North. 🔗wid.world/news-article/t…

I can’t stop thinking about this playground I passed every day in Cuba. This is what sanctions look like. Don’t let anyone pretend that economic warfare isn’t war.

I'm happy to announce this new paper — we compile evidence on the extraordinary harms caused by IMF and World Bank structural adjustment programmes in the global South since the 1980s. The empirical record is devastating: documented negative impacts on wages, poverty, inequality, maternal mortality, infant mortality, healthcare access, etc. SAPs inflicted misery on the periphery in order to curtail their consumption, scupper independent development, and make labour and resources more cheaply available for the core. gh.bmj.com/content/11/Sup…

Absolute bombshell. Lebanese journalist Rania Khalek looks Piers Morgan in the eye and calls the IDF an army of rapists. She cites the horrific CCTV footage of Israeli soldiers and how Israeli society celebrated them as heroes. She absolutely refuses to condemn the resistance.

@Kathleen_Tyson_ What steps would Iraq have to take under current conditions to have full control over its oil revenues/reserve funds?

I’m glad Iraq’s financial choke chain at the New York Fed is coming under scrutiny, especially as Trump has now done even worse for Venezuela, skimming 40% off oil proceeds in a Qatar account under his own control.
Al Jazeera English@AJEnglish

Iraq has some of the world’s largest oil reserves but the money it earns doesn’t fully flow through Baghdad. Instead, a system set up after the US invasion in 2003 still gives Washington lasting leverage over Iraq's oil revenues. Al Jazeera’s Osama bin Javaid explains.

If Democrats are unified, this Iran war powers resolution could actually pass. Johnson can only afford one GOP defection. That makes Democratic leadership’s refusal to force a vote ASAP even more indefensible. Credit to @AndrewSolender for this reporting: axios.com/2026/03/24/ira…

As I reported, Meeks staff previously tried to delay a vote by warning 40 Dems could oppose it. In the end, just 4 did. Now Meeks is saying he may not hold the vote because *one* member could vote no. Democratic leadership is doing everything it can to avoid voting on this war
Andrew Solender@AndrewSolender

Rep. Greg Meeks tells me he hasn’t decided whether to force a vote on his war powers resolution this week or in mid-April. He also confirmed my reporting that his whip efforts have gotten most Dem defectors on board, with just one member whose vote is uncertain.

Excellent. So WHEN is Mexico resuming oil shipments to Cuba? The last one arrived on January 9!
teleSUR English@telesurenglish

📌 Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum stated that only the people of each nation should determine their own destiny. In this regard, she underscored her support for the Cuban people’s right to self-determination. Sheinbaum emphasized that this position is based both on the Mexican Constitution and on her personal conviction. #Mexico will continue to send aid to #Cuba, including support for international brigades. Assistance was provided to small vessels to prevent problems during the journey, which can last three days. The assistance aims to ensure that supplies arrive without a hitch. Sheinbaum stated that her government opposes blocking fuel deliveries to Cuba through reprisals against other countries. This stance applies to both aid and trade agreements.

Do people think that Cuba is a remote island cut off from the rest of the world? It’s a state 90 miles from the US whose economy is heavily dependent on having tens of thousands of tourists from all over the world each year. Please go visit and spend money.

The situation is dire in Havana. Cubans are asking for basic medicine, food is scarce, and trash is piling up. Constant power outages are disrupting daily life. U.S. policy toward Cuba is genocidal. I just got power back myself. I woke up to no water and an ongoing blackout.
