So in the edge case that urea doesn't land in Au this year: Brainstorming strategies to reduce N requirement &/or increase yield under constrained N. Is it a year to burn stubbles? Tillage (with what fuel!) ? What else?

Just to distract from diesel. Another thing the Simpson's picked again. NGT, LG, Kulin IGA all recently purchased by Indians as well as tyre shop and roadhouse in Lake Grace. 3 Local pubs bought by the Chinese. Interesting times indeed

@WheatWatcher @logue_phil We fill our tanks after the march long weekend for last 30 years. March -April is always our suppliers biggest months along with Oct-Nov. The fuel is in Australia, but the drama is being caused by the importers/refiners.

@logue_phil I wouldn't call farmers stockpiling, becuase they need the fuel for commercial activities, but I am hearing from lots of farmers that they are ordering earlier than typical.

The Farm Weekly used to the farmers bible, but after weeks paying for adverts of farm machinery and produce with zero response, I am done with it ! #asktwitter what do people think about posting ads on here for free ?

@eyres_N @ipaddockapps @DPIRDbroadacre We used to plant 4 varieties of hard wheat at the same time. From memory Carnamah, yitpi, mace and halberd. Gave us a big spread on flowering etc. Eventually got too hard and we went back to single varieties again.

@Jusakstud @ipaddockapps @DPIRDbroadacre To mitigate frost without tillering you need other means to spread flowering windows (without delaying flowering into terminal drought) This needs to be done with genetics

Nick makes a compelling case for high seeding rates across varied rainfall seasons in this excellent project. We made the shift a while ago on the back of similar dramatic results from @DPIRDbroadacre in southern WA. Throw in the weed control benefits and it's a no-brainer!
Nick Eyres@eyres_N

What an absolute pleasure to get on stage and present 3 years of findings to date at the Perth @GRDCWest updates. With only a minor technical difficulty on the most important slide - 3 years of results. Shout out to @Living_Farm for all the help to pull this off.

We have a govt bureaucracy that is bloated, intrusive and enamoured by its own BS. It's actually sickening that ordinary citizens have to go to these lengths to protect themselves. #auspol

@ipaddockapps @Jusakstud @DPIRDbroadacre Dosnt solve the screenings or the re fill of the seeder twice as often, and if you're not in a high N environment (most of our crops aren't) you have to put the N on anyway. Year after year we see the people with high seeding rates struggle with screenings & test weight.

@ipaddockapps @DPIRDbroadacre We also went "precision seeding" press wheels etc in that time span. Hopefully getting similar plants/ha with lower seeding rates. Higher crop density will increase frost damage. More screenings, less root growth on poor rainfall years.

@Jusakstud @DPIRDbroadacre Granted , but those things can be mitigated. We use (and always have) our harvest field bins to store our seed, and fast filling the seeder with a chaser bin, 32mm seed tubes and high capacity fan so high rates are manageable. The dividend for doing it is literally free money.

@ipaddockapps @DPIRDbroadacre Factors against it... Scaling when you doubled ha was $$ to double retained seed. we use to keep 250t for 2000 ha. suddenly 500t for 4000. logistics ..ha seeded per day is lower, more fills, bars go slower to handle more seed everything wears more. opportunity cost poor rainfall
