@wookash_podcast DOS2 has a hell of a lot better story than BG3, but I prefer the mechanics of BG3 in many ways. BG3's writing just annoyed the hell of me. It's just millennial writing everywhere, stuck in a millennial Dungeons and Dragons. I think my conclusion is I hate DnD.

When in doubt and you need a database: use either Sqlite for a local database or Postgres for a global/public database.

@scorewright I'm building similar kinds of stuff, just wondering what technologies you are using? Cpp/rust? Are you using some kind of CRDT framework or something?

@KDComposer Thanks! We built our own renderer from scratch, using the Standard Music Font Layout like Dorico, Finale, MuseScore, and many others to render the actual notation. We've also built our own collaboration engine based on operational transformation, the same system used by Google.

@SamuelAndreyev Do you like it? I thought the strange loop was an interesting idea, but too abstract.

And I am not even comparing Python to C, but something closer like Lua, or even Lua-JIT.

I am not a newcomer to Python, and especially not programming—Python is slow compared to many other languages because of its very nature. And that has nothing to do with "production-capable" either. I've written "production-level" software with Python numerous times.
Santiago@svpino

Over the last 10 years, I’ve learned something: Every single person claiming that “Python is slow” tends to be a newcomer with no experience building software. They are usually dropouts of a bad JavaScript bootcamp. More importantly, if you think that Python isn’t a “production-capable” language, you are definitely too early in your career.

@wagslane I've thought about this, its just like you have to create a digital institution and get market share somehow. But when you think about it educating one person, is greater contribution than the entire k-12 system has even done.

High school needs to be WAY more rigorous. There are many reasons why higher education sucks right now, but a big one is that they spend the first 2 years reteaching stuff that should have been covered in k-12

I’m like how after 30 music becomes a solved problem. You just listen to the same 50 songs till the end of your life, and that’s all.
