DMK isn’t going anywhere. Even from the opposition, its ecosystem inside govt offices stays intact. That gives it enough leverage to corner Vijay and expose the unrealistic promises he’s boxed himself into.

I think it is too late to even make such changes. EPS ran the campaign like a district secretary who is in collegium with 40 other district secretaries. He gave everything that every DS asked for. And they failed him.! And it is his leadership failure to not rise above everything an do things organisationally and strategically with allies.

This logic runs the risk of implying Dravidianism or even Communism in Kerala is more effective than HIndutva cause some select factors in a chosen time frame are good.
Private sector works because it does not have this constraint, yet - this logic can and will be used to push quotas in pvt sector too and will be difficult to delink at that time.
Tamil Nadu's all round success is due to the phantom carrying capacity of the deep cultural strength and human resource. Also, ably supported by a class that mastered the art of public rationalism and private sacralism.
Across education, industry and most importantly Culture, the State led entitlement and 'demand for disadvantage' incentivization has led to several issues.
We now run the risk of seeing top educational institutions be taken over by SJW.
Vembu ji's inspiring paradigm of 'Transnational localism' will suffer the most with this trend.
It is not a static thing, it is dynamic public culture. It erodes trust, disenchants talent and institutionalizes conflict.
We had a political settlement at a certain percentage and the best course for India is to recognize it not as a normative ideal but as a reality to contend with limit.

This topic of reservation comes up often in these threads. People don't seem to realise that American universities have had strong Affirmative Action and Asian American kids (including Indian American kids) need far higher grades and test scores to get into top Universities. This is absolutely true in California even now - even though the law prohibits it and the Universities will deny it! On the other side, Zoho has thrived in Tamil Nadu and both AIADMK (MGR initiated the massive increase in reservation quota in early 1980s in higher education) and DMK have long maintained the same reservation policy here. It is a political non-issue in Tamil Nadu. Zoho has benefited from and has in turn benefited all the communities in Tamil Nadu. When private sector investment is strong (as has been the case in Tamil Nadu) reservation policy in education can help to create a bigger talent pool. When private sector investment is low, society becomes a zero sum game. This is why we must work to boost private sector investment in a big way, rather than fight about reservation. I repeat: Universities in California have very strong Affirmative Action programs too. And California also has had strong private sector investment.
