Opinions on NASCAR (William Richard)
I so think there are select races that could benefit from less milage, and honestly, I think the year would he fine with 4-6 less races. Ideal schedule 30-32 Cup races. 25ish O'Reilly Races. 20ish Truck Races.
🇺🇸 Family Man (Dave) 🇺🇸@TeamKFBfan8

I tuned into @SiriusXMNASCAR Radio and the first thing I hear is… “I have been beating the drum for a while, which I know is not going to happen, of shortening the races and shortening the season.” As a fan, this is definitely not something I want to hear on #NASCAR radio.

I’m not impressed when immigrants say they’ve “integrated” because I’m a larper at heart. I know I’d go harder than all of them. If I moved to England, I’d smoke a pipe. In Ireland, I’d speak Irish and dress like a leprechaun. The least these people could do is wear whiteface.

Colonel Quaritch was always right. And I say that as a non-human. In the face of a superior force, you can plead, you can beg, but in the end, they're a superior force. And it was only by literal deus ex planeta that the idiot natives survived.

@SCShipyards I’m still hoping that the humans will win in the end, and the how movie franchise is about human resilience and determination

@pleonidasp My main criticism of that one that would have BENEFITTED from the use of CGI. Fill the beaches with CGI extras, add more boats in the background.

I have seen many criticize (or excuse) Christopher Nolan for his inability to write good dialogue. I have yet to see anyone point out how successful my favorite film of his is, presumably in part because it has so little dialogue. I haven’t checked, but I’m pretty sure the longest sustained speech in the film is Tommy reading the Churchill speech from the newspaper at the end.

I don't want a Christianized Homer. I want the real Homer to show why Christ was necessary.

IMHO, a lot of conservatives are missing the Biblical forest for the woke trees in Nolan's Odyssey. Yes, the casting of Elliot Page is silly and egregious. But here's the thing: Nolan's "The Odyssey" is an apologia for Christian morality poured into a Greek vase. The entire movie is rooted in what Nolan terms "Zeus' law." That law is: "Treat others as you would want to be treated, because anyone might be a god." Now, clearly, there's nothing like that in Greek mythology. It's not implicit in Homer. It's a direct rip from Biblical morality, substituting "because anyone might be a god" for "because man was made in the image of God." Nolan then takes this rule and uses it as his moral glue: the idea is that Odysseus, in utilizing the Trojan Horse, violated Zeus' law and led to full-scale slaughter. That sin has led to the unleashing of broader globalized sin (the "sea peoples" who don't respect Zeus' law and are invading surrounding areas). This is a highly Biblical message: that sin is infectious, and that sin also affects the world at large, not just the sinner. Odysseus has sinned, and he must atone for that sin through self-imposed exile. He must also sacrifice his own aspirations to restore the possibility of a moral universe: because he has unleashed catastrophic violence and violation of Zeus' law -- manifest in the suitors' cynical use of Zeus' law to eat Penelope out of house and home -- he must violate Zeus' law one last time and then accept the penalty, which is exile. This is a not only a movie that will make millions of people go read classical literature again. It also reinforces the idea that violation of the Golden Rule has disastrous consequences. I dunno. I'd consider that, on balance, a large-scale win for civilizational values, when weighed against the woke casting of Elliot Page or the dumbass discussion over whether Lupita Nyongo is good-looking enough (she is, and for the record Diane Kruger is German, not Greek).

They can't make more Imax projectors for The Odyssey because the technology is being slowly lost Someone should make a movie about how a civilization that fails to maintain the spirit of its forebears falls into ruin and collapse

@NatHalberstadt The problem for #1 is there is no alternative to having AI. There is no AI does not happen, because China is blasting ahead. For the previous anti-fossil groups, there were alternatives like wind and solar. The Tech industries are somehow larger than the fossil energy ones.

Without the unifying struggle against climate change, which never got enough credit for creating a coherent synthesis between “sensible” technocrats and more deranged left wing activists The left / liberals will need a new totalizing narrative And the leading contenders seem, likely: (1) AI safety-ism / Ludditism (2) a return to hardcore racial politics, but this time with a more explicitly anti-colonial inflection (these are narratives that resonate more fully in Hindu + Muslim migrant communities, which continue to grow. And we see the seeds of these narratives playing already).

I don't think the "Murica fuck yeah!!!" circlejerk understands how much the kinetic&logistical capacity of the US military has depleted since the Gulf War. The US has only 30-40% of the military shipping capacity it did in 1990. Pray tell, how will you deploy ground forces?
