Between the main mirror and the #MicroMirror project, I figure I've spent about $16,000 on hardware, so if you ever wonder how free software is all available to download and is still fast, it's because of jokers like me and the rest of the MicroMirror team.

@thekurtwk Our smallest appliance is a HP T620 with a 1GbaseT port on it. We only seen a single unicast IP address and transit (i.e. /31 or shared subnet) and the boxes typically do 1-3TB/day egress. We do ask that you have "real" transit, so no home ISP. Start a thread with mirror@fcix.net

Calling ISP/DC operators who want to support #Linux / #foss ! The @AlmaLinux project has done a mirror coverage analysis and have identified south Texas as a weak spot in their download mirror coverage in North America.

If anyone in the San Antonio/Austin/Houston area have spare bandwidth, please consider standing up a mirror, or if you don't have the ability, consider contacting me to send you a managed #MicroMirror appliance; we ship you a small server to plug in, and we fully manage it.

@rootpoint @TracketPacer Don't do this. We're not rigid about checking entitlement before helping with an issue, but only because people don't tend to abuse it. We apply more latitude to grey market gear when the customer is waiting on delivery of an order of supported gear.

@TracketPacer I read through the thread and I recall that the Arista TAC will sometimes just accept the call even if you have no support contract because of some esoteric issues like this. I had a client with a bunch of their HW and they did take the call even though no contract on it.

@KWF @er4hn_tech thanks for checking this out. i do know that the NIC supports hardware time stamping (which is what i’m using). i’ll admit though when i swap back to the other NIC it works just fine. confused 😭

For context: at the beginning of 2021, installed battery capacity in California was a rounding error. Now it's cranking out the equivalent power output as six nuclear reactors when grid operators and markets call. That happened fast (and a lot more to come!)
Joe Deely@jdeely

Two things happened on the @California_ISO grid last night. 1) Battery storage discharge went over 6GW for the first time AND 2) Batteries were the largest source of supply.

@JesseJenkins Six 1GW nuclear reactors will deliver 144GWh of energy every day. Is that how much battery capacity California has installed? If not, please stop lying and learn the difference between power and energy: cjshaver.com/bl0406/

@KWF That’s so cool! I wish high end broadcast equipment had this capability since physical layer testers for 3G-SDI and beyond start at $10k

Fun Arista EOS facts! Some Arista platforms actually support dumping a raw eye chart from the individual phy lanes if you really want to drive yourself nuts chasing L1 issues.

@TracketPacer What is a network engineer going to do with this? Buy better cables, maybe? If you're trying to drive down error rates lower than you can with statistics? Honest Q, not dismissive at all. EE developing hardware wd use an oscilloscope. Someone put effort in, I'm curious why!
