X be glitching but nothing can stop us! Vanity Fair, Marc Andreessen, Roy Lee, introspection, culture, media, LinkedIn vs X, attentionmaxxing vs being authentic, Jessee Pollak vs cringe - we covered a lot of ground. Massive thanks to our special guests @kateirwin and @clairekart for showing up and sharing hot takes and deep thoughts on founder communications and the state of culture in general! Always fun hanging with @bogwitch @0xDannyHype and @ashnichrist! And super special thanks to @wasavi_eth for producing the show and making it run smoothly!

So much talk about this photo. Too much introspection. Antichrist will get you.

@Kapuster I have sat around in my head doing introspective thinking for most of my life and no one is here for that.

When I was a kid my dad would come up to me on a weekend and ask "are you doing anything productive?" It was almost always no, because I was 5. I would get a book, a science lesson, or an educational computer game, and now I have disorganized attachment and achievement anxiety.

@sporadica He’s not just onto something. He’s championing and bankrolling that culture.

it’s actually funny how Marc /is/ on to something, sorta our culture+economy is being completely rewired to favor those with no “introspection” in a way no thinking, just action, just do things, think about consequences and morals and plans later. make a fuss. go viral. piss people off. lie. raise tons of money with no plan. don’t think things through just DO. and this is why we will falter and, potentially, fail completely.

@bogwitch I should add this to my Founder Comms 101 spiel because clearly it’s not as obvious as one would think.

three notes on being taken seriously: 1. enclose the toes in some shoes 2. don't pull the captain morgan stance 3. please keep feet off the furniture and windowsills

@CamiRusso Spot on. Also, unsurprising that a mainstream publication is not picking up on the change. Half of crypto is still in denial. Crypto is rapidly becoming a part of Wall Street. Very different vibe.

This VF photo and article ("Crypto’s True Believers Demand to Be Taken Seriously") feel so off to me and I was trying to figure out why. I think it's because it feels like something that was written in the 2018 era of crypto -- where belief was almost everything the industry had going for it. blockchains and tokens were live but mostly just to gamble with. so a photoshoot that portrays crypto people as this excentric rag tag group who somehow still hang on to their weird ideals even as prices crash made sense back then. But not today.

@VannaCharmer Peculiar to see this in the bear market and not when everything is pumping. Makes one bullish.

Founder comms is 10x more important in times like these. When faith runs thin, those who can give it to people win. Tomorrow, we'll be breaking down some of the viral founder moments. We'll probably be looking at some appearances by Roy Lee, Jessee Pollak, Alex Karp, maybe even Marc Andreessen, since he has been dominating X for the last 24 hrs with zero introspection. Who else created moments worth talking about?

No introspection. Only attention-grabbing and shipping. Or is the whole thing just a bait? Marc Andreessen is having fun, and so should you. The next Hype broadcast is Wednesday, March 18, 11 am ET / 4 pm CET. Join the @HypeBootcamp if you want to survive this bear.

Great men of history had little to no introspection. The personality that builds empires is not the same personality that sits around quietly questioning itself. @pmarca and I discuss what we both noticed but no one talks about: David: You don't have any levels of introspection? Marc: Yes, zero. As little as possible. David: Why? Marc: Move forward. Go! I found people who dwell in the past get stuck in the past. It's a real problem and it's a problem at work and it's a problem at home. David: So I've read 400 biographies of history’s greatest entrepreneurs and someone asked me what the most surprising thing I’ve learned from this was [and I answered] they have little or zero introspection. Sam Walton didn't wake up thinking about his internal self. He just woke up and was like: I like building Walmart. I'm going to keep building Walmart. I'm going to make more Walmarts. And he just kept doing it over and over again. Marc: If you go back 400 years ago it never would've occurred to anybody to be introspective. All of the modern conceptions around introspection and therapy, and all the things that kind of result from that are, a kind of a manufacture of the 1910s, 1920s. Great men of history didn't sit around doing this stuff. The individual runs and does all these things and builds things and builds empires and builds companies and builds technology. And then this kind of this kind of guilt based whammy kind of showed up from Europe. A lot of it from Vienna in 1910, 1920s, Freud and all that entire movement. And kind of turned all that inward and basically said, okay, now we need to basically second guess the individual. We need to criticize the individual. The individual needs to self criticize. The individual needs to feel guilt, needs to look backwards, needs to dwell in the past. It never resonated with me.
