@Eric_Erins I saw a 700 square foot condo near Foster/Western over the weekend for $395k, on Redfin. That price is insane!

@GamewithDave I miss the reliance on paper maps, and browsing through atlases. I get nostalgic for how Europe used to be in the 1990s. Good times were had. The bar and club scene was so much better before cell phones became mainstream.

2023 North Racine, built in 1886. I like this building. Someone else does, too. A permit was issued yesterday to do a gut rehab on all six dwelling units.

@cshimala Amazing. I used to work in the Hancock, and it was scary up there when it stormed, or was windy.

@marcusleshock Loved this place as a kid, especially the corn dogs and root beer. There was one in Aurora and also one in the little town of Shabbona.

Have you ever been to DOG N SUDS?! It’s an old school drive-in restaurant where the servers come right to your car, and if you “dine in,” they attach the tray of food right to your window. The chain began back in 1953 in Champaign, Illinois when two music teachers at the University of Illinois opened a hot dog and root beer stand. At one point there were hundreds of these across the country. Today, there are only a handful left. This is the location in Grayslake, Illinois. They have dogs, burgers, all of the sides, desserts and yes - root beer. It was great to be back here. They had a bad fire about a year ago and rebuilt. Glad to see it is still operating and there were plenty of customers! So … have you been to a Dog N Suds? Or another drive-in like this?

@monkieboy99 Peter, I loved your book. My family was in a very similar cult, but only for two years. Things mostly normalized by my junior year in high school, and my siblings and I were able to recover.

I was raised in a cult where thinking differently meant danger. Questioning meant exile. Non-conformity meant punishment. I was literally excommunicated for independent thought. So when I see this kind of labeling now, I recognize the same psychological mechanism- just dressed in political clothing instead of religious clothing. That’s why I allow myself to vote, to think, to choose, and to move how “I” feel is best

I lived in a condo building like that for many years. If you were home, you buzzed the doorbell when it rang, because it was probably someone’s UPS or Amazon. But we had all kinds of unwanted people get in our building that way: proselytizers, scam energy companies, high school students, solicitors. It was intrusive and creepy, and had nothing to do with race. “Please just leave”. I’m on her side.

Weird behavior from @MikeSimmonsChi. @SenMikeSimmons glibly reaching for the race card is low, made only worse by fishing for sympathy online. People don’t want you in their building. Not a hard concept. Canvassing is counterproductive when it becomes intrusive and harassing.

SCOOP: IL-9 congressional candidate and current state senator Mike Simmons had police called on him in Buena Park while canvassing for votes. Here’s the video of the interaction @MikeSimmonsChi @SenMikeSimmons recorded and shared with me.

Dirty Rain Occured Last Night - Strong winds over the southern and central Plains yesterday kicked up dirt and dust. Additionally, smoke and ash from fires yesterday in these locations moved into Illinois yesterday evening. The dust and ash got embedded in rain droplets last night and caused dirty rain to fall, covering cars. #ilwx Photo credit to Mike Thomas in Manhattan, Illinois, showing the dirty rain.

This Site C site in Gary is actually kinda perfect, even forgetting all the incentives. Super close to downtown Chicago, along the lake, lots of cheap land, already connected via expressway and rail… plus Gary is the quintessential Rust Belt sob story and has been the butt of jokes for decades so there’s a feel good element to it. This is where I’d bet becomes the winning site.

The city of Gary is making its push to bring the Bears to Indiana. Today it released a plan highlighting three potential sites.
