Thread about what you can do if your child faces unfair treatment at an English school due to Afro hair, regardless of how they choose to wear it. Other areas in UK might be different, let us know. We are passionate to #endAfrohairdiscrimination as parents and as a teacher 1/?.

A-level student Ruby Williams won £8,500 in an out of court settlement after her school repeatedly sent her home because they claimed her hair was "too big" - an experience she describes as a "humiliation". To watch more videos, click here: trib.al/QOWz9T0

On school uniform... Even among Teacher Tapp users, 46% of secondary school respondents say they don't want smart uniform. For primaries, 77% of staff don't want smart uniform. Parents don't want it. Kids don't want it. This is the 21st century, not the 19th. Let's move on.

While most secondary schools require students to wear blazers, nearly half of teachers would prefer young people to wear ‘joggers and a polo’ or no uniform, exclusive polling reveals tes.com/magazine/news/…

The @BBC had a 2-hour delay, yet a racial slur was broadcast to millions. We need answers. This isn’t about blaming people with Tourette's. It’s about editorial accountability, failure of duty of care for all and how Black pain is often minimised. ✍🏾 metro.co.uk/2026/02/24/bbc…

Other interesting q is whether compliant/rule-following kids really are made to feel "safe" in super-strict environments. Some exp that obsessive rules over eg uniform, equipment, even timeliness can feed anxiety,in rule-followers. Wd be interested in Mr Rogers' ppl voice data.
jo cb #Antiracist #Equity@jo_cb_

@AdamHighcliffe @RogersHistory You’ve nailed that. I read that post thought he sees inclusion as a zero sum game and it represents a status & merit threat: The assumption that increasing opportunities for minority groups creates a direct loss of status or competitive advantage for the majority.

Today’s joint protest at Camden Council showed the power of workers acting together. NEU members at Great Ormond Street Hospital School stood shoulder to shoulder with UNISON members from Richard Cobden Primary, making their voices heard loud and clear. This is exactly the kind of joint organising we need to see more of between NEU and UNISON. When education workers unite across unions, we are stronger, more visible, and impossible to ignore.

Maynard, a "Coloured" from Ophirton undergoing the infamous comb test. The comb stuck in his hair and was thus reclassified as "African". The "comb test" (or pencil test) was a pseudo-scientific method used during South Africa's apartheid era to racially classify individuals, determining if their hair texture (specifically if a pencil or comb would get stuck) designated them as White, Black, or Coloured, enforcing segregation and denying rights based on these arbitrary categorizations. This test, along with others (skin color, language, family history), was part of the Population Registration Act of 1950. Source: Drum Magazine, October 1955

✊Solidarity to doctors on strike today @TheBMA. No one in the public sector wants to strike, but the jobs and pay crisis in the NHS is unacceptable. The @NEUnion stands with 10,000 resident doctors taking action today. NEU ❤️ NHS
The BMA@TheBMA

Today 10,000s of doctors will go out on strike, as they're willing to stand up for their profession against a totally avoidable jobs and pay crisis. Resident doctors need jobs, and when they find those jobs, they need to be paid fairly for it. Striking is a last resort, we just need @wesstreeting to put an offer on the table that we can accept.

Just had a row with the wife but it's okay I asserted my authority and made her cry so she should have enough "healthy fear" to conform next time I singled out one of the kids to shout at relentlessly as well, can't have his siblings thinking they can relax, got to keep...
