"A team like Argentina refusing to play football is absolutely disgraceful." Gareth Wheeler sounds off on the losing team's approach against Spain, as Lionel Messi & co. managed to do a whole lot of nothing for 120 minutes of football

Up until ~10 years ago, most boreal forest lightening strikes and human ignitions fell on damp ground, often damp from recent snow melt. Climate change has transformed this, turning the northern half of North America into a giant tinder box, where even the soil carbon can burn.

For those wondering why it's so hard to control remote wildfires in Canada, here are two maps which might help illustrate the problem. Let's call them: A) Where the people are; and B) Where the trees are.

There are wildfires all over the western and central US right now. When California had wildfires that billowed smoke into Canada, the Canadians didn’t bitch about it, they send firefighters using their own tax dollars, not asking to be reimbursed, to help control the blaze. When our closest allies are struggling, our job is not to point fingers and whine. It’s to help. Neither natural disasters nor air quality, care about the artificial borders we draw on a map. So grow a spine, and focus on what we can do to help our neighbors and in turn ourselves, instead of just complaining about how it’s an inconvenience to you, as if all of North America isn’t breathing this air.
Congressman Nick Langworthy@RepLangworthy

Americans should not be forced to breathe hazardous air year after year because Canada refuses to properly manage its forests. This is no longer a one-time emergency—it’s becoming an annual public health crisis. That is unacceptable. I am reaching out to Members of Parliament and the Canadian Ambassador to demand answers about the devastating impact Canada’s forest management failures are having on Western New York, the Southern Tier, and communities across the United States. Millions of Americans are paying the price for policies they had no role in creating. We can all accept that nature is unpredictable. But repeated failures to reduce wildfire risk and manage forests responsibly are a policy choice. The United States cannot continue accepting dangerous air quality every summer as the new normal. Canada must take meaningful action to prevent these catastrophic wildfires and protect both Canadians and Americans. If it refuses to do so, there should be consequences. Our citizens should not be forced to suffer because another nation’s government failed to do its job.

Katie Miller being shocked that Taco Bell would have 4,300 *total customers* in a large state *all summer* really speaks to the gap between MAGA voters and MAGA's political leaders like the Millers, who are just maladjusted ex-rich kids who hated their liberal peers growing up.

4,300 people ate at Taco Bell just in Michigan?

People replying to this, like, “Come on Tom Cruise, stop trying to enter the culture war to look good.” Folks, he’s in a scandal-plagued religion, has more money than god, and can star in any movie he wants. For better or worse, I don’t think he gives a shit about culture wars.

Yes!!! There was definitely a time when a woman wanting this was seen as naggy and “marriage is just a piece of paper” then once women started coming out saying they don’t want it now all of a sudden every man is a family man who wants 10 kids lmao
🌸💕@BasedMistress_

I remember a time when men hated women who openly wanted marriage and children. They were too much pressure and wanted too much. Men clamored around the “cool easygoing” women who weren’t obsessed with babies and trapping men into marriage, but somewhere something shifted

Interesting bit of dichotomy seeing someone who’s avidly pro-Shein also talk about how AI data centers are destroying the world and ruining the water supply.

It seems, from all reporting, that ICE today - shot someone who was not attempting to run them over but, rather, "flee the scene" - was not the person they were looking for - who had a 3yr old in the car - who they dragged out into the street - all while not wearing body cams

Sometimes I think about this tweet and how the joke wouldn't hit the same if someone generated the same image using AI, even if the two images were visually indistinguishable. The craft that went into the image matters as much as the image itself.

I think @jaketapper’s defensiveness here is because he knows there’s some truth to the main criticism. He spent months hawking a book about Biden’s health with multiple segments per day during his press tour, yet he and his network haven’t shown the same level of scrutiny towards a clearly addled Trump. Trump was having senior moments at the same time @cnn was devoting more segments to Biden who was out of office by that time so Jake could sell more copies. McConnell could not walk by himself or give statements longer than a few seconds, had multiple moments where he froze in front of cameras, and he still has to disappear for weeks before media gave sustained scrutiny to his health. I’d have more respect for Jake if he engaged with the criticism in good faith. Instead we get doubling down like “look we did one or two segments stop criticizing me!” that only upsets me even more. Biden being old was treated as existential; it’s simply not for Republicans of similar age and in some cases worse health.
Jake Tapper 🦅@jaketapper

We’ve done several segments on it this week on tv, calling for transparency and more. We don’t post every segment from our 2-hour show online. You can see transcripts of our show at cnn.com/transcripts
