@chasematte @MathematicsUCL You have to love the audacity of someone who looks at something for 60 seconds, makes a mistake and automatically thinks that a highly educated group of people made a mistake for hundreds of years.

Gun violence has no place in B.C. — and we’re taking action. Yesterday, we advanced regulations to bring the Firearm Violence Prevention Act into force on October 1 — strengthening our ability to curb gun violence, disrupt organized crime, and keep communities safe. This first-of-its-kind legislation closes gaps in federal laws and gives law enforcement new tools to hold criminals accountable — including new offences for transporting illegal firearms in vehicles and discharging a firearm from a vehicle. We’re also strengthening rules around imitation and low-velocity firearms, including banning sales to youth and clearly prohibiting these items in places like schools, hospitals, and places of worship. These changes are about closing loopholes, disrupting criminal activity, and keeping people safe.

Canadian Police Association Reception: 🚨There's talk that the Liberals' gun grab is going to be ended.🚨 Just can't determine if it will be an official death or it gets an indefinite deadline and slowly goes away. Anyone heard anything?

Guns don’t care if they’re legal or illegal. They kill and maim regardless. Guns are the problem. Period. It’s not a Partisan issue.
Blaine Calkins@BlaineFCalkins

Conservatives know that law-abiding firearms owners are not the problem. The problem is 11 years of a Liberal government that has ignored illegal guns crossing the border and brought in catch-and-release policies that have made our streets less safe. I was proud to stand with @PierrePoilievre and my Conservative colleagues in Cambridge, defending lawful citizens against the billion-dollar Liberal gun grab boondoggle.

@CateSask Are you slow Cate? When you vote for an MP you also vote for their party. When they change party after the vote it is corruption.

What is even the point of Parliament? At Health Committee, we asked to see the PrescribeIT contracts, in which the Liberals blew $250 million on NOTHING.   But Mark Carney’s Chief Filibuster Officer spent 2 hours talking to prevent us from seeing it. I asked why at Question Period, but the Chief Filibuster Officer took the question and…. Filibustered. That’s why I went to ask again tonight in the House:

If floor crossing truly went against democracy, we would not be voting for individual MPs at all, we would be voting only for parties. In Canada, we elect a local representative in each riding, not a fixed seat for a political party. That means the person elected is the MP, and they are accountable to their constituents, not permanently bound to a party label. When an MP chooses to cross the floor, the election result is not cancelled, and no votes are erased. The same elected representative continues to serve the same riding. What changes is the party they sit with in Parliament, not the fact that they were chosen by voters. If democracy meant locking MPs to a party forever, then voters would have no real choice beyond selecting a party list. That is not how Canada’s system works. Floor crossing can be controversial, but it exists because MPs are elected as individuals within a parliamentary democracy where accountability happens at the ballot box, not through party handcuffs mid term.

Due to the #GunLobby's & #GunTrolls' inability to understand the concept of implied meaning or, more likely, its bad-faith insistence on overly literal misreading that totally ignores context (in order to mislead & fearmonger regular gun owners), @BBCWorld has specified that its initial passage referred to #AssaultWeapons, not ALL rifles, as any reasonable person who follows this file would know.

.@BBCWorld report: Time is running out to implement a comprehensive ban that would bar ownership of all assault-style rifles, in particular the #SKS semi-automatic. The @liberal_party gvt's willingness to compensate current owners without banning new purchases of all rifle models a nightmare scenario. "It's just unbelievable that the government has invested so much in this controversial and difficult file, so much money, so much political capital, and yet they're heading for failure." bbc.com/news/articles/… via @nadineyousif_

@FiascoShenanig1 @gmforbes35 So leave it undeveloped for decades & Canada gets zero jobs, royalties, taxes, zero new Arctic infrastructure (road, deepwater port + airstrip for sovereignty). Minerals have sat there since 1970s. No Cdn company has built it. Better to develop it with strong Canadian rules
