A Spanish Guardia Civil vessel is claimed to have approached HMS Anson at close range as the Royal Navy submarine arrived at Gibraltar, in an incident that a Gibraltar-based naval observer described as "reckless, unprofessional, dangerous". ukdefencejournal.org.uk/spanish-vessel…

The Unconventional Soldier Podcast
As a former serviceman I find the comments and vitriol beneath Al Carns X posts painful to read. Deserved or otherwise it shows that once the trust and support of the serving and retired community is lost it's never coming back.

@AlistairCarns Al, I am not going to rant as I have great respect for you as a ‘Booty’ but if you want respect as Under Secretary AF you’ve got to get a grip and show some of your RM grit for us Vets and serving guys. Show boating doesn’t help your cause or aims either.

Thank you to the band of the Welsh Guards for a fitting tribute to the UAE Armed Forces as it marks the 50th anniversary of unificaiton. It was a privilege to meet members of both the Emirati and UK Armed Forces during my recent visit to the UAE

I remember before I joined up, all I ever wore were hand me downs. I can hear my mum now. ‘Here, try these trousers on, they were your Uncle Jacks’. ‘Hold on, aren’t those the ones he died in?’ I replied. So, you can imagine how amazed I was when I finally arrived at the QM’s Quarter Masters Stores. For me it was a revelation being issued with an entire wardrobe of clothes. The downside was 50% of the kit didn’t fit me properly and a lot of the items originally issued rarely saw the light of day after I left training. ISSUED We had a corporal who would always answer any question about himself with the same answer. 'So, Dave, are you married?.......' If I was meant to have a wife, the army would have issued me one.' There were many other occasions you got a similar answer, ‘Eh Dave, are you getting changed and coming downtown?’ ‘If I was meant to wear civvies the army would have issued me with civvies.' Five years later he became the Quartermaster of our Battalion. I popped in to see if I could exchange my combat jacket, I said ‘So Dave, have you got any combat jackets in stock?’ ‘If I had any combat jackets, I would issue you with one, STORES ARE FOR STORING now f**k off, before l make balloon animals out of your intestines. And don’t call me Dave, the army issued me with a crown on my arm. I'm the QM.’ BULLIES AND BULLSHIT 2 Warning! If easily offended, I really do advise you not to read this book. clivewardauthor.com Available on amazon amazon.co.uk/Bullies-Bullsh…

This is completely fatal for Keir Starmer. Olly Robbins has now admitted the Prime Minister personally insisted on appointing Peter Mandelson himself. This proves Starmer lied to the public about the security vetting process. Watch it all the way to the end. He’s finished.

@afneil So all you guys want to get rid of Starmer? Then the next incumbent, and the next, and the next? Maybe a general election thrown in? Then get rid of the next PM? That’s no way to run a decent democratic parliament in a first world nation. Get a life you guys!

BREAKING NEWS (with the potential to be massive): The Guardian reveals Peter Mandelson failed advanced security vetting before becoming US ambassador. He was initially denied developed vetting clearance in January 2025 - weeks after Keir Starmer had officially announced his appointment. Foreign Office was ‘encouraged’ to deploy a rarely-used power to override the recommendation from security officials. The Government promised total transparency on the Mandelson affair after MPs forced it to release of a batch of documents about the process. But nothing it has released reveals this startling fact. Indeed, Starmer has always insisted Mandelson was subject to 'security vetting, carried out independently by the security services, which is an intensive exercise that gave him clearance for the role'. A delicate balance. We know they do shady shit, that is their role, its why the exist. But our ability to do anything is naturally limited. We cant just torpedo them, obviously, so we just have to watch and check after. Are our legal frameworks fit for purpose?

BREAKING: The UK says its military has exposed a month-long, covert Russian submarine operation in the Atlantic, north of the UK. One attack submarine is thought to have been used as a decoy as a number of “undersea naval units” from the Main Directorate of Deep Sea Research (known as GUGI)! conducted “nefarious activity over critical undersea infrastructure”

WALT’S IN THE WORKPLACE The ultimate advantage of military service is being able to detect bullshit at 100 yards. Where do I start. Over the years in my job, I’ve just about had my fill of Walt’s in the security industry. It’s amazing some of the bullshit they come out with. It makes me mad just talking about them. WALT NUMBER ONE Mid 20’s cocky little shit and get this, ex Staff Sergeant in the Royal Engineers, explosives expert, sniper, 2 tours of Afghanistan, etc. Found out through Facebook that this Special Forces, Black Ops, Airborne, Diver, Ranger, Bin Laden Hunter was, shock horror lying, he had spent a few months in the TA that was it. I also found out through one of the cleaners who knew him, he has five kids. A complete f**ktard. The sad thing is the Civvies where I work believed his stories of valour. Anyway, his bullshit stories caught up with him when he started spinning his shit to the new Op’s manager, an ex REME warrant officer, who soon found him out, groomed and exposed him. After that he was nothing more than pure, harmless entertainment. In the end, even the Civvies were calling him a Walt. Why is it that most Walt’s feel the need to big up their bullshit stories? Why can’t they just say they were in the Infantry or ACC or something, and try and impress me by saying he’s an expert in making mashed potatoes and how he can make a wicked egg banjo in the dark, so he doesn’t ruin his night vision, or how many times they can shout out their name, rank and number followed by ‘one f**king sausage’ in the gas chamber. @CliveWardauthor When I was at brat school (Arborfield REME Apprentice college) we had a CSM who was Grenadier Guards. When being marched by him he would give it ‘luft to, luft ri etc. One of our blokes at the back started giving it ‘BLIB BLOB, BLIB BLOB etc. That CSM then had a total melt down!!

It all starts with the usual drill instruction, but if you got them wrong, the silly phrases would start. Most of them were designed to make you laugh and giggle…and then you were in even more trouble. ‘EYEEEEEEYESS…. FRANT!!!.... As you were, not good enough…........ Next time I want to see sixty eyeballs bouncing over to the corner of the drill square!’ Now that would be funny. He probably watched too many Tom and Jerry cartoons, I think! Here are a few more of my favourites ‘Don’t carry that rifle by the carrying handle.’ Heard that one a few times. ‘You need to switch on soldier.’ Switch on? What do you think I am, a f**kin’ vending machine? ‘You’re marching like a thunderbird with his f**king strings cut.’ The mind boggles. ‘You are a double crease on the lightweights of humanity’ Class! Always liked that one. ‘Thicker than a Gurkha’s f***skin.’ Now that’s interesting, can someone explain that one to me? There must be some urban myth surrounding that one. ‘Pockets undone, it’ll be your safety catch next, then the submarine hatch and you don’t want that in your CV do you, when you return to civvy street.’ He was right though, could I f**k get a job in civvy street! ‘So, Mr Ward, it states on your CV that you sank one of her majesty’s submarines?’ Oh yeah, I can explain that one!’ ‘Lower than a snake’s b*ll*cks.’ That’s it, I give up. BULLIES AND BULLSHIT Warning! If easily offended, I really do advise you not to read this book. clivewardauthor.com Available on kindle also available in paperback. amazon.co.uk/dp/B08QBQFPKL/…
