The Senators behind the scenes had been lobbying the NHL for quite a while on the forfeited 1st RD pick and as the league said in the statement what got traction was that the Dadonov screw-up happened under former ownership and former management. The more the league thought about it, the more that hit home. A $1M fine is not nothing, but the Sens for sure are satisfied with this result, getting the 32nd overall pick, and happy to put it behind them and move forward.

There hasn't been an announcement by either school or the league yet, but it appears that Hockey East leaked in the Player of the Year release that the Hockey East Final will be played at UConn rather than Walter Brown (or anywhere else).

We'll check in later as the results around the conference come final, but it looks likely at the moment that NU will have locked themselves into the 7 or 8 seed in Hockey East and be hosting Lowell or UNH in an opening round game on Wednesday in 11 days.

Attaching a good prospect to get Yoshida off the books is a bad idea but I do think we’re at a point where you’ve gotta consider eating a significant portion of that deal to recoup something and to get at least some of that money off of the booms for the next few years

On Masataka Yoshida: One Red Sox executive opined that it’s not a lock that all four outfielders + Yoshida will be on the Opening Day roster. There has been tangible interest from other teams in Yoshida, though they’d likely want to see how he looks in spring training, and the Sox would likely need to eat a large chunk of his salary or include a top-5 prospect to move him.
