@MerlinFDC4 That’s a shame, I find they work really well. Is there a specific reason?

I miss the days when a TV just turned on with no fuss. 3 tellies since the advent of "smart TV" (aka a glorified tablet) and every one, after 6 months, slows to a crawl and gets buggy. Sort it out manufacturers!

@bumcloud @BelTel A keg of Guinness from our wholesaler is currently £186.86 plus VAT. Not quite sure where you got your pricing from.

We all know about the rising price of a pint. But what might surprise many is how little of that actually ends up in the pockets of publicans. Here, Gavin Bates of Ryan’s Bar in Belfast explains how the price of a pint typically breaks down. Read more tinyurl.com/43vjz3ha

100% agree with @micky_murray. Withdrawing Boucher Road Playing Fields as an event venue before an alternative is ready is a terrible idea. Giant’s Park isn’t event-ready yet, so all this does is create a gap, not a solution. Plan first. Then move.

“I don’t think Boucher is the perfect space - it’s the only space we have." Councillor Micky Murray is asking Belfast City Council to delay a decision to close Boucher Road Playing fields as an event space until an alternative venue is selected. The decision is set to be ratified on Monday evening. 🎥 Hannah Patterson

@BelTel If their businesses are this fragile and not factored in rates increases they should go now.

Why is Rachel pulling Guinness into a large wine glass? (And her u-turn doesn’t touch the sides of what’s needed - she’s still clobbering pubs, high streets and all hospitality with a sledgehammer)
Rachel Reeves@RachelReevesMP

British pubs are at the heart of our communities. Today we’re backing them with a 15% cut to new business rates bills, a two-year freeze, and a new High Streets Strategy so retail, leisure and hospitality can thrive – restoring pride in every community. gov.uk/government/new…

@JP_Biz Competition is healthy and welcome. The issue is what used to be ‘low margins’ are now minuscule. And with overheads rising and taxes increasing at every turn around it’s putting pressure on even the most experienced operators.

“This little pub, which isn’t in the middle of Holywood, it’s actually outside. We’re paying more rates than the other four pubs in Holywood added together." A Co Down pub owner has hit out at “heartbreaking” rates hikes on the hospitality sector, saying it is a “tax on success”. 🎥 Hannah Patterson
