David Adams, CEO, Global Automakers of Canada- “Opening the doors to Chinese EVs now would render Canada's investments in the sector pointless, because Chinese vehicles would take over the market.” Note: China's low labour, environmental standards along with state subsidies are why cdn automakers demand a level playing field -

🌹🇨🇦🇨🇳🌹 Welcome the upcoming visit of China’s Foreign Minister to Canada. x.com/stevenchase/st… At a time of global uncertainty, Canada must act with confidence—not hesitation. China represents one of the most important economic opportunities for our country—supporting our farmers, businesses, exporters, and long-term growth. Expanding trade, restoring dialogue, and building stable relations will benefit Canadians across sectors. National security today is also economic security. Reducing overdependence on any single partner and diversifying toward China and other global markets strengthens Canada’s resilience, sovereignty, and long-term stability. A recent Nanos poll found 55% of Canadians say the United States poses the greatest threat to Canada’s national security—compared to just 15% for China: dailycaller.com/2026/02/20/can… This visit is an opportunity to reset relations, rebuild trust, and move forward with pragmatism and purpose. Canada should seize it.

Self-idolization (or the idolatry of self) obscures justice by replacing objective, moral, or divine standards with personal desires, entitlement, and ego. When an individual prioritizes their own reputation, comfort, or opinions above the well-being of others, true justice is abandoned. In Canada, Chief Justice Richard Wagner is one many poster children. He should recuse himself, and remove his own statue of himself from our Supreme Court.
David Knight Legg@KnightLegg

Canada’s Chief Justice Richard Wagner has installed a lifelike bronze bust of himself in our highest court. It should be called ‘Narcissus Canadiannus” - There is no precedent for something this vulgar in the history of the Court. It should be taken down. Richard fancies himself. - Richard also fancies his own opinion on things. He violated legal due process and the Courts reputation by publicly accusing the Convoy - who protested backwards federal Covid policies that were soon dropped of ‘anarchy’ and ‘hostage taking’. Now that the Convoys freedom of speech, assembly and due process rights have been asserted by lower courts the Supreme Court has to consider the appeal of the federal govt and weigh the rights of citizens against the decision of the federal government to impose the Emergencies Act to suspend those rights. Wagners lack of judicial discretion in the first instance makes his recusal from such an important rights-defining case important because it signals not just fairness in the content of the decision but in the way the decision gets reached by the highest Court. He has already shown his bias. Any decision against the convoy poisons the integrity of the Court if he remains present. But Richard - the man with the bust of himself in our Court - doesn’t imagine himself under the law he imposes on others. He hasn’t completed any graduate work in law or published any academic work in law, philosophy or jurisprudence so it’s hard to know how he justifies himself in these matters. Ironically, he has a reputation for warning others - including those far more qualified in formal jurisprudence than he is - not to critique Canadian judges like himself or their (increasingly bizarre and politicized) decisions. But, from the Magna Carta onwards, Richard should know that in law as in politics dissent is democracy. The dissent of the Convoy and the growing critique of Richards own bizarre behaviour and inability to articulate a judicial philosophy is exactly what’s needed to save Canada - and the Court’s reputation as a place where justice - not the ego of the Justices - is at stake. Richard should recuse himself. And remove that vulgar bust from the Supreme Court. #SCC #RuleOfLaw

Carney and the Calgary School This week, the @broadbent resurfaced an essay from last year using the so-called “Calgary School” as a lens to understand Prime Minister Carney’s political economy, particularly in light of his government’s recent economic and fiscal update. Such framing represents a category error and a reminder that parts of the Left have an elastic and ultimately unhelpful understanding of the Right. Start with the latter. The Calgary School wasn’t a formal doctrine so much as a loose group of scholars based in the University of Calgary’s political science department, including figures like Tom Flanagan, Ted Morton, Rainer Knopff, and Barry Cooper. Their principal focus was on political institutions—with a particular focus on the division of powers within Canadian federalism. They viewed the Constitution’s decentralized model as a strength that reflected Canada’s diversity and pluralism. Running through this tradition was a general skepticism about centralized authority. Influenced by thinkers like Friedrich Hayek and the Public Choice scholars, they emphasized the limits of governments to manage complex economic systems from the centre. Markets and federalism, for all their imperfections, disperse decision-making and knowledge in ways that top-down models struggle to replicate. Which is why it’s a stretch to cast Carney as part of this tradition. His government’s emerging economic agenda points in the opposite direction. The creation of entities like the Canada Strong Fund, the Build Canada Homes agency, and other quasi-independent bodies reflects a preference for centralized, technocratic management of the economy. These institutions are designed to mobilize and direct capital toward government-defined priorities. Think of it as economic and political coordination from the centre. There’s a historical analogue here—and it’s not the Calgary School. It’s the interventionist turn in Canadian political economy associated with Pierre Trudeau in the 1970s, updated with the language of modern finance. There are, of course, fair critiques of the Carney government. But if I may defend the prime minister: anti-statism isn’t one of them. If anything, the Calgary School’s core insight—that governments should be cautious about concentrating economic power—stands as a useful warning about the direction that Carney now seems inclined to take.

How many provinces have laws to align with UNDRIP? Just one. BC passed the "Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples Act (DRIPA)" in 2019, making it the first (and still only) province to enact legislation explicitly aligning its laws with UNDRIP. The federal government passed its own "United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples Act" in 2021. The Northwest Territories (not a province) passed similar implementing legislation in 2023. No other provinces have equivalent laws. Other provinces have expressed concerns or taken limited steps toward endorsement but stopped short of binding legislation.

@MarkJCarney Canada has an independent journalism industry that is evolving. What most Canadians perceive as "journalism" is nothing more than Liberal propagandist media. Mainstream media in Canada is an embarrassment. It contributes to the end of democracy.

Say what you want about the convoy protests in Ottawa, but what happened to Tamara Lich should concern all of us. Tamara took a stand during a difficult time in Canada. In response, she faced a level of enforcement that many believe was excessive and intended to discourage others from speaking out. A grandmother. No criminal history. Yet treated as if she were a violent threat. A Canada-wide warrant issued for her arrest for an alleged bail breach and then locked up in jail without bail. This isn’t just about one case. It’s about how far authorities can go when people challenge government decisions. Now she’s in a legal fight that could set important precedents. If fairness, accountability, and civil liberties matter to you, this is worth supporting and watching closely. givesendgo.com/my-stand-again…

My Stand Against Malicious Prosecution and Negligent Investigation: Over 4 years have passed since the peaceful Freedom Convoy which saw many truckers and supporters, including Chris Barber and myself, arrested on the streets of Ottawa. What followed was the longest mischief trial in the history of the Commonwealth. Both of us were convicted of mischief for our part in the most peaceful and polite protest of all time, and sentenced to 18 months of house arrest. Even more outrageous? A single group photo at a JCCF awards dinner in Toronto while surrounded by lawyers, fully allowed under my bail conditions, triggered a Canada-wide arrest warrant for an alleged breach of conditions, which did not occur. There was no investigation. No call to my lawyer. It was issued like I was a violent criminal. Homicide detectives flew me back to Ottawa in leg shackles, I lost my job, precious time with my family, was denied bail, and spent 30 days in remand. All for a non-violent mischief case. I'm pleased to announce that I have filed a lawsuit against the Ottawa Police, the Crown prosecutor, and others for malicious prosecution & negligent investigation because this isn’t just about me; it’s about stopping this kind of abuse so no Canadian ever faces it again. This will be a daunting undertaking and for that reason I have started a GiveSendGo campaign in hopes to help fund the fight, including a $25,000,00 retainer and costs estimated at around $100,000.00. I've included the campaign link below and the full statement of claim is available at officialtamaralich.com Thank you to everyone for all your love, support, and encouragement these past few years and for helping me continue the fight. givesendgo.com/my-stand-again…

I’ll have some exciting news to share this week. As many of you now know, after 25 years of writing for La Presse—entirely on a volunteer basis—the newspaper decided to “pause” our relationship last month following comments I made about how government tax credits may be fostering editorial bias in parts of the media landscape, often favouring the governing Liberals. Just agreed to write for a new outlet, with my first piece coming out this Wednesday. More details to come—stay tuned.

🚨FULL BLOWN CRISIS IN BC🚨 Thank you @DwightNewmanLaw for raising this issue further. Dr Newman makes many excellent points in his article. “…there is now a court challenge suggesting inadequate respect for the rights of Alaskan Indigenous nations in British Columbia. Yes, you read that right.” Yes that’s true. Where does this lead us? ➡️US Tribes eligible for Mineral Tax Revenue from B.C. resource projects? ➡️US Tribes get equity ownership of B.C. resource projects? ➡️US Tribes can claim rights to private property in British Columbia? All because the NDP government doesn’t want to let go of DRIPA. DRIPA has now become a sovereignty crisis for BC and Canada. lawforbreakfast.substack.com/p/breaking-for… #bcpoli
