Hydroxychloroquine did not have any effect on viral clearance in a RCT. High proportion with adverse events in HCQ arm but most mild. medrxiv.org/content/10.110…

It’s great to see that our paper on reverse genetics system for SARS-Cov-2 and other positive strand RNA viruses has been selected as Editor’s Highlights in “Microbiology and infectious diseases” web page of Nature Communications nature.com/collections/je….

Amazing case report. The medicine of tomorrow. 5 week old boy admitted to NICU. Within 37 hours he had his whole genome sequenced, gene defect identified, treatment ordered and received by patient. Within 6 hr symptoms resolved. tinyurl.com/4emtz2p4

@yxsetoh Great historical summary, Setoh - thanks. Just leaves me to add that the experiments for the original WNV CPER development and for the latest SARS-CoV-2 CPER (in PC3) I actualy did myself with some help from the team, incl. you. Doing experiments still feels me with joy!

Hey Virology Twitter! Over the years we (in the @KhromykhAlex lab) have developed and optimised a next-gen reverse genetics methodology. We call it Circular Polymerase Extension Reaction (CPER). And I thought I'd share some of its capabilities. 1/n

@JodyPeters20 @Alberto91592929 @yxsetoh Couldn’ agree more, Jody and sorry for mistyping James' last name - it should be James Potter of course. Our paper establishes CPER for for different polyA tail-containing RNA viruses, SARS-CoV-2 (~30kb), Casuarina virus (~20kb), Ross River virus (~12kb) and Norovirus (~7.5kb).

Such an amazing technology. Using CPER we were able to launch an insect-restricted nidovirus (mesonivirus) with a large RNA genome of 20 kb! Congrats to James Potter on his first equal first author paper! nature.com/articles/s4146…

Our complete mapping of mutations to #SARSCoV2 RBD that reduce binding by convalescent human plasma is out in @cellhostmicrobe (cell.com/cell-host-micr…). Right now E484K getting lot of attention, but I want to emphasize what our results suggest to keep eyes on in *future* (1/n)

The emergence of SARS-CoV-2 variants serve as a powerful reminder that viruses by their very nature mutate, and that science may need to adapt if they are to remain effective against them🔬 Statement from CEPI and our COVAX partners @gavi @WHOcepi.net/news_cepi/cova…

Great interview with Russell Basser from @CSL walking through the update on our @UQ_News #COVID19 #vaccine. While not the outcome we wanted, big shoutout to the Australian media for the accurate and balanced coverage, it means a lot to whole team who worked so hard this year! 🙏
The Project@theprojecttv

The once-promising University of QLD COVID-19 vaccine has been scrapped after some trial patients returned false-positive test results for HIV. It’s forced the government to drop a billion-dollar commitment & seek millions more doses of other potential vaccines. #TheProjectTV

It has been a real inspiration to see how much can be achieved with a great team of likeminded and highly motivated researchers. You guys gave it your best shot and I am sure you will rebounce back stronger than before.

this makes sense, athough vaccinated people can do it themselves with other available antibody tests if they really want to know whether they are vaccinated with vaccine or with placebo
Reuters Health@Reuters_Health

Roche is partnering with Moderna to include a COVID-19 antibody test in the mRNA specialist's ongoing vaccine trials, the Swiss drugmaker said on Wednesday, potentially demonstrating if the vaccine is working. reuters.com/article/health…
