Amazing case report. The medicine of tomorrow. 5 week old boy admitted to NICU. Within 37 hours he had his whole genome sequenced, gene defect identified, treatment ordered and received by patient. Within 6 hr symptoms resolved. tinyurl.com/4emtz2p4

Hey Virology Twitter! Over the years we (in the @KhromykhAlex lab) have developed and optimised a next-gen reverse genetics methodology. We call it Circular Polymerase Extension Reaction (CPER). And I thought I'd share some of its capabilities. 1/n

Our paper establishes CPER for for different polyA tail-containing RNA viruses, SARS-CoV-2 (~30kb), Casuarina virus (~20kb), Ross River virus (~12kb) and Norovirus (~7.5kb).

Such an amazing technology. Using CPER we were able to launch an insect-restricted nidovirus (mesonivirus) with a large RNA genome of 20 kb! Congrats to James Potter on his first equal first author paper! nature.com/articles/s4146…
