Heard from an ex-employee that Ken Griffin was speaking to the company at a town hall and said he had been talking to a quant and asked what books he had read recently. The quant said he hadn’t read anything recently as he had been very busy with work. Ken griffin said that quant is no longer employed at the firm.

Yes they will still get a lot of the gates without having to pay. And they were the biggest competitor in the sense that they competed on many of the same routes and had major hubs at many leisure destinations such as FLL, SJU and other places. We've already seen jetblue announce a lot of new routes out of FLL.

one of the interesting weak points of regulation is that it evaluates deals as if every company exists in a steady viable state instead of recognizing when a business is already structurally weak. or at least they don’t weigh this factor high enough it seems (correct me if i am wrong). so in cases like spirit, you end up with a strange outcome where a carrier that likely couldn’t survive independently is forced to stay independent anyway. like forcing a weak lion to live without the prides help. it makes sense cuz the intent is to preserve competition but in practice it just left a business that clearly couldn’t function without help & this just delays the inevitable rather than meaningfully improving the market. so with all of the hoopla on the merger, the doj / judge got a worse outcome than if the merger had just happened which would’ve ironically made perhaps a decent viable competitor to the big three.

@halabi @signulll Spirit was not jet blue’s biggest competitor. Jet blue is higher up market, more of a LCC than an ULCC. Jet blue wanted the gates and the planes mostly. Now they don’t get those.

@signulll We don't know that it's a worse outcome. In the current scenario, Jetblue is now more likely to survive because their main competitor is eliminated without being saddled by the debt of an acquisition.

The premise of this “anti-cancel culture” movie THE DRAMA is that a guy learns his fiance almost committed a mass shooting at 15, but then didn’t go through with it. This completely wrecks their relationship. People around him tell him she is a psycho and he must immediately call the police. You, the viewer, are meant to tap yourself on the back for being empathetic and forgiving towards her while everyone else acts insane about this total non issue. If my gf told me she almost did that at 15 I would be like wow that’s fuckin crazy - but I wouldn’t break up with her or have it ruin my perception of her because I am an adult, who was also a teenager, who also had dark and erratic thoughts, like literally everyone else. It would be fascinating more than anything. Almost everyone I know would behave the same way. This couple wears Harper’s magazine shirts and quotes Freud, and we’re supposed to believe they are incredible intelligent literary types with mature understandings of the human condition who simply cannot contextualize this fact of someone’s childhood. There is something so condescending about the films thesis. It is meant to be a reeducation camp that teaches us to empathize with people we already empathize with. It assumes we are judgmental and wags its finger at us when we are in fact already cured of its supposed ills. Simply not a film that was made for adults.

As someone who struggled with sleep most of my adult life and have used medical sleep aids like trazodone / Klonopin / magnesium etc. and non medical aids like white noise. I’ve found that good sleep hygiene + sauna + foods naturally high in melatonin (white fish etc.) is the key.

There is no coherent belief system in an ideology where it’s ok (encouraged) to microloot public transit, but not ok to microloot public grocery stores.

I’ve thought about this and I think some rules like this would help: 1. You must have the persons phone number saved to a contact to add them 2. You must both request to add each other, it doesn’t notify you when someone requests to follow you, it’s assumed nuclear family will add each other and close friends could say hey add me but it would be somewhat awkward to tell a person you don’t really know to request you 3. No follower count listed, “like” counts are private, no “mutual followers,” no recommended people to follow, everything is always private no public profiles

Claude thinks that CoC does apply. Even if doesn't, Anthropic and OpenAI can just cut access and tell SpaceX "sue me". In this type of commercial arrangements, courts typically warrant money damage, not specific performance. And the $10B value clearly shows intent from SpaceX and Cursor to circunvent specific performance. Claude also thinks the contracts talk about no training of competitor models, but I don't think that's the case here, since they also Train composer, and seem to have enough internal controls. Probably it's the end of Cursor. They'll be stuck with Gemini and Grok.

It'll be interesting to see whether Anthropic and OpenAI cut Cursor's access to their models. They almost certainly have a change of control clause. Likely reason why this deal is structured in this way.
