Agreed, it's completely unacceptable. House Republicans voted to keep the government open over 40 days ago, and Senate Republicans have voted 14 times since to get it back open. Maybe pick up the phone and tell @SenGaryPeters and @SenatorSlotkin to open the government! With one vote, they could ensure our troops, law enforcement,TSA/FAA, and ALL federal employees get their paychecks and fully fund SNAP and WIC.

These comments and messages were shared with my office by a group of students at Royal Oak High School who recently started a @TPUSA chapter at their school. Within hours of announcing the new club, these students were inundated with vile and threatening messages from other students and allegedly even parents whose children attend the school. This open hostility toward conservative thought in our public schools is unacceptable. The leadership of Royal Oak Schools must be held accountable for allowing an environment where students feel so emboldened to harass and threaten their peers over political opinions. It is utterly disgraceful that grown adults, allegedly including parents, have become so consumed by political rage that they are harassing minors and encouraging the harassment of their own kid’s classmates. I want to commend these young patriots for their courage. They refuse to be bullied into silence and are moving forward with their new club as planned. My office is already in communication with some of the students and their families, and we are working to bring their Turning Point chapter here to the Michigan Capitol to honor their commitment to freedom of speech and open debate. It is time to root out the dangerous and hateful political intolerance from our educational institutions and ensure our public schools are safe places where all students can learn and express themselves without fear of hostility or ideological indoctrination.

Today, Michigan House Republicans successfully passed HB 4024 by a vote of 58-46. This bill requires students at public schools to use bathrooms that align with their biological (birth) gender.
