Pleased to see my amendment in the govt funding bill that bars U.S. visas for Cambodian govt officials involved in the wrongful detention of Theary Seng. Best way to solve this restriction is to drop the dubious charges and release her.

Statement on the Death of Alexei Navalny. Today, we mourn the loss of a true hero in the relentless fight for democracy and justice. Fellow pro democracy activist, Alexis Navalny, has tragically lost his life in prison, a stark reminder of the cruel lengths to which Vladimir Putin's regime will go to silence voices of dissent. Navalny's unwavering courage and dedication to freedom made him a target for oppression, yet he stood tall, inspiring countless others with his resilience. Having had the privilege to meet Alexis Navalny as part of the Yale World Fellows alumni and family, I witnessed firsthand his indomitable spirit. As a pro-democracy activist, he not only challenged Putin's authoritarian grip on Russia but also embodied the very essence of resilience and determination against overwhelming odds. In the wake of his passing, we must confront the grim reality of his death, a direct consequence of Putin's fear of change and of voices like Navalny's that dare to dream of a free Russia. The death of Alexei Navalny demands a thorough investigation, holding Putin's regime accountable, and ensuring justice prevails. His demise must not be in vain. As we honor Alexis Navalny's legacy, let us not succumb to despair but rather find strength in his sacrifice. We are reminded of the cost of freedom and the relentless struggle against tyranny. Navalny's dream of a free Russia, unshackled from the chains of autocracy, lives on through each of us who continue to fight for justice, freedom and human rights. In remembering Navalny, let us pledge to keep alive the flame of hope and to carry forward his mission with unwavering resolve. Former CCIM director Pa Nguon Teang, who quit the NGO last month, announces he is resuming VOD broadcasts from overseas. VOD was closed by Hun Sen in Feb for reporting a story about aid to Turkey. Zero press freedom is leading to more publications broadcasting from overseas.
