Michigan Democratic Senate candidate Abdul El-Sayed pushed back on the assumption that American taxpayers must guarantee the survival of Israel or any other foreign government in an interview with Pod Save America.
Alex Wagner: “So no funding to ensure the survival or future of a Jewish state?”
El-Sayed: “I turn it back around on you, Alex: Why is it our responsibility to ensure that?”

@KweenInYellow I think I pretty much agree with everything that's been said, but it is just utterly tiresome that the standards that progressives have to meet seem infinitely higher than any other potential candidate would. To the point where those thresholds may actually cost them support.

Ryan Grim suggests that Khanna may have been signalling that he's "hiding his power level" on this issue with his reference to Abraham Lincoln.
Am I convinced? Not exactly. But I do give him some grace that as a brown guy he has to navigate being more easily portrayed in American public consciousness as pro-terrorist or anti-Jew.
I do suspect he'll reflect on this exchange and learn and adapt. I also know that he's the only 2028 hopeful to travel to the West Bank, without Israeli government minders, to bear witness for himself what's going on there.
To say it less obliquely, this has only further reinforced my doubts around an AOC candidacy and her utter failure to meet this particular moment and be the leader we might expect or imagine her to be. Why didn't her team do something like this a year or two ago? Why is the Silicon Valley guy the vanguard on this?? ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

@tmo_melonmaster @DiscussingFilm Yeah, it's more about immersion. It is the same reason why we praise Robert Eggers for making period accurate films that use language from that time.
But if course no one who worked on this movie is going to just admit that because they are trying to promote the movie.

I'm going to repeat what I've said elsewhere.
He’s deliberately missing the point. When I’m watching an epic movie I want the dialogue to carry the gravitas and depth befitting the source material and the epoch the story originates from.
If I’m watching a movie about the Siege of Osaka I don’t want the samurai speaking like they’re from Akihabara, nor do I want knights at Agincourt talking like road men. It’s that simple.

Iman Vellani on the statement that Gen Z doesn’t care about superhero movies:
“I don’t agree that Gen Z has stopped caring about superheroes. Maybe they’ve just stopped feeling obligated to show up.
Our generation has grown up with an abundance of superhero stories, so perhaps the novelty has worn off — which is natural.
The bar is higher now. We’re looking for stories that feel specific and emotional — especially in the age of AI. We want honesty from our storytellers. We want our intelligence respected.
If anything, I think Gen Z responds incredibly well to superheroes when they’re treated as people first. The themes of grief, identity, legacy, belonging — they’re timeless and will never age out.
Every genre goes through cycles. Westerns did. Musicals did. Romcoms did. So the answer isn’t to abandon the genre, but to find new stories that only be told through THIS genre.
At the end of the day, I think we just want these films to evolve and grow alongside their audience.”

@socialistadri @USATODAY Hasan still hasn't learned the lesson from the last interview he did that was cut. Just bring a personal recorder or use your phone and record it for your own records.
English

@socialistadri @USATODAY @hasanthehun should consider recording every conversation/interview he has so he can retain some power over what was published. Give himself some leverage with receipts.
English

@PamphletsY This is why Hasan always says he doesn't talk about his private life. We finally understand the dynamics.
English

@infolibnews If Greenblat is so sure his positions are factual and reflects reality, then he should have no problem allowing his positions to be explored, debated and challenged. He doesn't, because he's a racist who thinks like a child.
English

@infolibnews You really can't consider yourselves an impartial moderator if you're unwilling to accept that Greenblat's conditions are ridiculous based simply upon the fact that Hasan doesn't acquiesce to their framing on issues, which, newsflash, that's what a discussion is for.
English

@DropSiteNews That second half of the clip is just jaw dropping when Kasie Hunt says 'I asked [El-Sayed] several times whether Israel had a right to exist and "he would not say that straight out".'
Are we sure if we should only question Stevens' allegiance to America?
English

@GenePark Honestly, wasn't much of a fan of it as I wanted to be. Story is good, it's batshit in places, and unconventional. However what we're really here for, is the fight scenes and unfortunately, I just find a lot of it overdone. Fights outstay their welcome. Too much rolling around.
English

i want to watch this but the closest theater is an hour away. worth the trek?
𝑲𝑬𝑳𝒁 🎴@KelzActually
Words can’t even describe how fucking insane you have to be to choreograph a fight sequence like this 😭😭

@davidscottjaffe You either die a fun videogame, or live long enough to see your game criticized for not being the solution to every socio-cultural issue.
English

@_WCS_ She was not a bad guy in the GOD OF WAR I directed. Still a hack probably, but please get your games straight. Thx.
English

In that regard it’s kind of uniquely awful that Athena was made a villain in God of War. I always knew David Jaffe was a hack.

"Very little time in the Odyssey is spent in the perspective of a woman" O illiterate founder of Greece, the goddess Athena (a female) drives the entire story from start to finish. Her fingerprints are on every page. The entire point of the story is that mortals, in spite of all their pride and greed, are the playthings of the gods and therefore must be humble and behave honorably or they will be punished. The male god Poseidon is the antagonist, and the hero is Athena, who repeatedly leads the otherwise helpless characters to resolution and peace. This knowledge could be yours, if you read the book
