I notice on Twitter that there are alot of confused people about Fascism...and they often call conservatives (the "Right") "fascists." Well, here is a quick clarification from President Reagan to explain: youtube.com/shorts/4RrfvmK…

@amycoplan @RepDonBacon @cozzmo73 Amy, yes, Trump has the right to order the Pentagon to essentially hollow out our training and footprint within NATO. But he can't end our article 5 commitment and membership without a 2/3 vote of the Senate. The only solution is to get the GOP back to Reagan's philosophy.

He cannot legally withdraw from NATO without Senate approval or an act of Congress, right? Is the worry that he can make our participation so weak as to be indistinguishable from withdrawal? There’s also the issue of who would sue if he tried to withdraw. I hope that you would not be alone in your party in recognizing the implications of our withdrawing from NATO. Though it is certainly far from perfect,NATO has afforded far more peace across the globe than any other alliance

@RepDonBacon Hey dope...nobody is destroying NATO. We're just not paying for it anymore. Now if we could only do the same and get rid of the useless pricks like you from Congress.

@jack_relentless @RepDonBacon You are right. But on the flip side, it doesn't really cost the US much to have bases in Europe. We don't "pay NATO"...it doesn't work that way. In fact, the Pentagon loves having bases in Europe, especially since Iran successfully hit 16 of our bases in the Gulf.

Unraveling or perhaps strengthening. There’s absolutely nothing stopping Germany, France, Italy, and the UK from becoming serious military powerhouses in their own right. Decades of free-riding under the U.S. security umbrella have atrophied capabilities in some places, but the money, industry, talent, and technology are all there. History shows alliances evolve or fade; Europe stepping up independently wouldn’t be disgrace; it could be overdue maturity.

@ScarPimpernel33 @RepDonBacon We should have. Russia should have been given 60 days to remove all military forces from Ukraine (post Feb 2022), and if not, coalition aircraft would start taking out any units. It was the same enforcement that President George HW Bush enacted on Iraq (for Kuwait).

@RepDonBacon I know this may come as a surprise to you, but Russia hasn't been Communist for my entire life. In fact it's been 35 years since Russia was Communist. The threat of communism is no longer one of tanks, but of homegrown movements. Something that NATO cannot defend against.

@TubelessTires @RepDonBacon Yes Europe wants us there, and the Pentagon wants us there. We couldn't have pulled off Trump's Iran attack unless we had those NATO bases.

@RepDonBacon Note that NATO was formed to counter USSR and later the Warsaw Pact both of which ended almost 40 years ago.

@JosIsenberg @RepDonBacon I love the founders, but WW1 and WW2 showed how US isolationism actually costs us way more in the long run. Far cheaper to have some garrison structures, which has been policy since 1945. It's very cost effective compared to war.

@RepDonBacon Doubtful. It will, in fact, mark the start of America getting back to the original principles laid down by the Founders, to focus on our own business, and to avoid getting entangled in the affairs of wretched nations with axes to grind. First we need to vote out some fools.

@RepDonBacon In all seriousness why is NATO so sacrosanct that it can't be allowed to change or evolve to reflect that the adversary it was developed to defend against doesn't exist anymore? Is Europe incapable of defending against the Russia of today? The one that Ukraine stymied?

@k9_adam1 @RepDonBacon When we needed assistance with Iran? No...Trump had the option to order the US Navy to escort and screen tanker ships in the Gulf, just as Reagan actually did, because Reagan had balls. Trump is a TACO.

@RepDonBacon The days of worrying about massive Warsaw Pact tank armies storming across the plains of west Germany are long over. Russia can't even knockout Ukraine. Enough with Europe. When we needed assistance going after Iran they weren't there for us. Time to get out of Europe.

@RepDonBacon Wrong - NATO is a relic of the past that we funded in a disproportionate way. EU and UK all have failed to keep their militaries up to date and depended on us propping them up.

@RepDonBacon The more important point is the benefit that Europe has given the American Taxpayer which is a golden pathway out of NATO after 70+years of American Taxpayers paying welfare to Europe to defend them while they built their untenable Welfare States
