My wife Barbie and I have no words for what has happened to four young children at their infant school in Ggaba today. We mourn with the parents who sent their dear little ones to school in the morning never imagining what danger awaited them. May God ease your pain 🫂. bbc.com/news/articles/…

It started with someone randomly sending me 17,000/- for 10 packs of reusable sanitary pads for ‘any needy girls’. Then the subsequent fundraiser to top up got us more 642 packs (10,922,000/-) from you. And now @AFRIpads has doubled our contributions by topping up with 660 more packs (11,220,000/-), plus appropriate undergarments and user guides to accompany all the pads. Thank you so much @AFRIpads for the very generous contribution 💐💐💐

The total contributions from you for reusable pads for vulnerable rural school girls were 10,922,000/- We are working out arrangements to have them delivered to a school we will select. I had thought of Karamoja, but I understand AfriPads will be donating there soon. Then the Danish embassy cartoon auction funds will get pads for girls in a refugee settlement in Adjumani. So it is my view that these reusable pads go to underprivileged school girls in Busoga. Join me here in identifying that underprivileged DAY secondary school. Suggest with photos of the school. Thank you very much.

But calling it “sleep porn” implies that these women consent to this. It’s such a problematic name to adopt. Women are being drugged, and raped. Calling it porn trivializes the harm these women are facing.

CNN did an investigation into the world of “sleep porn,” in which men drug their wives and either rape them or allow others to rape them. Dominique Pelicot was not a one-off. He’s not even that unusual.

We must never forget her 💔🕊️ Uyinene Mrwetyana was a 19-year-old first-year student at the University of Cape Town, studying Film and Media. She went to the Clareinch Post Office to collect a parcel after being asked by an employee to return later that day. That was the last time she was seen. Instead of assisting her, the employee, Luyanda Botha, lured her into a restricted area where he brutally raped and murdered her. He then attempted to conceal and destroy evidence of the crime. Her disappearance triggered a week-long search involving her family, friends, students, and the broader public, with widespread social media appeals under hashtags such as #FindUyinene. The discovery of her body and the details surrounding her death shocked the nation and reignited urgent conversations about the crisis of gender-based violence and femicide in South Africa. Mass protests followed across the country, with citizens demanding accountability and systemic change, chanting slogans such as “Am I next?” and “Enough is enough.” Women, in particular, shared their lived experiences, highlighting the daily risks they face and calling for stronger action from law enforcement, government, and society at large. Luyanda Botha was subsequently arrested, confessed in court, and received multiple life sentences for his crimes, along with additional penalties for attempting to obstruct justice. The case drew widespread national and international attention and remains a painful reminder of the urgent need to address gender-based violence.
