@Jimmy_Stick @OldNewYork1664 There’s no reason it should be that much. We rent a bayside 5br in Margate for literally half that. I would love to know why your rental is that much

@OldNewYork1664 A week in LBI for my parents, me, my wife and son, and my sister, her husband and 2 kids was 10 grand. The whole northeast went insane with the pricing for all the long weekend spots during Covid.

Problem is for a Mountain or Beach retreat in the Northeast, it’s approximately the same to go on a Caribbean Vacation. I love the Adirondacks, Cape Code, Montauk or the Jersey Shore, but they are not worth spending $4000 dollars to rent a house for the week.
Justin Slaughter@JBSDC

I truly think a large chunk of what is making the affluent miserable is the cost of housing and beach/Disney vacations. We need Disney Abundance - more supply of marquee family vacations.

@theblockspot @1keezybaby Donte is the first Achilles this season. Do you expect nobody in the NBA to get hurt each year? We don’t have that same expectation in NFL, college football, etc

@SITeslaTone @BrianSuttererMD True to a certain extent, but whenever you push yourself to your max, you’re definitely still hurting. Clayton Young posted a video the day after Boston and could barely run due to pain and soreness. Looked exact same to the gingerly running I do after a 3:45 marathon

I will be very, very angry if the NCAA opts to allow 5 years of eligibility. And players who were seniors this past year all of a sudden were able to stay or enter the portal. Would be awful for the sport.

Claude builds Google/Meta ads dashboards in 30 seconds Looker and every marketing SaaS is obsolete connect Claude to your ad accounts in 1 click via Ryze AI and it will: → pull any data you ask for → make changes in your account → schedule recurring tasks → generate ad creatives (not perfect yet, actively improving) still early but it works

@ZachFleer270 Interesting spot for college basketball, people are praising coaches for taking a 22 year old pro over a high school senior. The guy will be 23 when this season starts and 24 the following season. Thought this was college hoops, not a fallback for failed pros lol

@jamonholmgren @koomai Playing by yourself for a stretch of time, still means supervised for young kids. Maybe we’re different, but I’d never go take a nap while my toddler plays by themself. So none of what you keep mentioning negates what the OP said. When they get older, yes, things are diff

I genuinely do not get why kids take up 100% of their parents’ time these days. My dad and mom raised us 9 kids and didn’t spend every waking moment with us. I raised 4 of my own and didn’t spend every waking moment with them. And yet every reply is telling this burned out dad that he is doing the right thing, or even to go harder. Super weird to me.
PPE@planert41

Dads with young kids Is it normal to just feel tired and burnt out all the time? It’s like you don’t even really get the weekend to recover because it’s all just kid stuff the moment you wake up Arguably the only personal time you have is when they nap (and you’re already dead tired by that time) or the hour after they go to bed but before you pass out Just trying to figure out if I’m doing something wrong

You originally said basically any full time billable consulting role and no expectation over 40 hrs/week. Consulting is literally known for high hours lol. 45hrs billable min w/ internal expectations as well. Idk what world you’re in

I hated it when UConn did it a few years ago, and I still hate it now. Nothing is less appealing as a fan than watching programs stack rosters with paid transfers and the biggest NIL budgets. In UConn’s back to back year they had kids on their 3rd and 4th school
John Ziegler@Zigmanfreud

Michigan just won a national championship in men’s basketball with… -ZERO starters who enrolled at Michigan as freshman (all transfers) -A starting lineup with the average age of 22 -A starter who is 25 years old Go Blue!! 😂 Nice job, everyone!!🤮

@vrexec That’s a limited perspective. Most people aren’t buying homes to purely maximize returns. It’s an investment, but also about stability, predictability, and life stage. Evaluating it over a 5-year window isn’t representative of how most people actually buy and live

I'm doing some back of the envelope math on buying vs renting. Say you buy a $1M house with 20% down at about 6% mortgage rate and plan to stay there for five years. Your principal paydown in the first five years is about $57,000, but you've paid about $230,000 in interest. You've also paid roughly $100,000 in property taxes, insurance, and maintenance. Say the house appreciated 2.5% every year — so when you sell it's worth about $1.13 million. Your all-in costs to sell are about 7.5% — brokerage commissions, transfer taxes, attorney fees, title insurance, and the inevitable post-inspection negotiation. On a $1.13M sale that's about $85K in fees. So you net about $1.046M. You still owe $743K on the mortgage. You walk away with about $303K in cash — your $200K down payment back, your $57K in principal, and about $46K in net profit from appreciation. Your non-recoverable costs — interest, property tax, insurance, maintenance — were about $330K over five years, or about $5,500/month. That's your effective rent. But you "made" $46K selling, or about $770/month — so your effective rent was about $4,700/month. Not bad, but you tied up $200K for five years to get there. And if appreciation was 1.5% instead of 2.5%, that net gain basically disappears and you're paying $5,400+/month in effective rent. And this assumes there's appreciation at all — and that something doesn't go wrong with your house that needs a major remodel or repair. On a five-year horizon at 6% rates, you need everything to go right on appreciation just to make ownership competitive with renting. The transaction costs eat most of your upside. What am I missing? Anything?

This Cam Boozer talk is so overblown. Ok so don’t draft him Top 3. How far does he realistically slide? To 4-6? lol what is the conversation. A freshman averaged 22&10 in the ACC and shot 40% from 3 at 6’9

Bill Simmons questions Cam Boozer’s ceiling in the NBA: “I watched a lot of Duke over the last 5 weeks. His big go to move is he basically bullies you and does these little spin moves and ends up with the same little jump hook or turn around. His goal is always to get as close to the basket as possible. Which you can do in High school and even do in College. I don’t know if you can do that in the NBA as comfortably” (Via Bill Simmons Podcast)

@BorjomiDrinker @revenant_MMXX All children are different and it depends on number of children and age ranges. But my 2.5 yr old sleeps 12-13 hours a night and still takes about a 3 hour nap when not at day care. Not saying it’s “easy” being home, but it’s not a no break type of thing either

@revenant_MMXX When they're older maybe. When they're little, no, it's extraordinarily demanding and you get no breaks. Combine that with housework and its a lot. I'm a stay at home dad, I speak from experience.

Stay-at-home moms easily have more free time than anyone who works a full-time job and it's not even close. Kids play independently, they nap, they aren't nearly as much work as Big Mom pretends they are.
Happy A Heathen@LucyferLoo

@revenant_MMXX No. Men should raise their own children. Make them quit their jobs, give up their hobbies and ambitions. They are parents too, right?
