@ashleyschendel You should meet my son in a 4,200 square foot home with 2 kitchens that dad pays the mortgage on. Mom still pays his internet and trash pickup. I also get to pay for his cell service. Being a parent doesn't seem to end, even after our kids are adults.

We have a two-bedroom apartment with a kitchen in our basement, and I’ve already told my daughter she can live there as long as she wants or needs to. If she goes to college, we’re not charging her rent. If she somehow chooses not to, we’d charge something low just so adulthood still feels real. I don’t think making your kid struggle unnecessarily is some higher form of parenting. If you have the ability to give them a softer landing while they build a life, why wouldn’t you?

“Let’s spend £4.5 trillion on net zero over the next 25 years. Let’s increase taxes to pay for net zero. Let’s ban new oil and gas licences in the North Sea but spaff away £40billion buying North Sea oil and gas from Norway. Let’s buy coking coal shipments worth £7.2million from Japan but ban UK coal mining. Let’s plaster thousands of acres of farmland with solar panels but spend £50million on sun dimming experiments. Let’s give huge renewable energy construction contracts to China. Let’s give Drax an estimated £1.8billlion in taxpayer funded subsidies on top of the £11billion it has already received despite Drax burning an amount of wood equivalent to 300 million trees. Let’s give £1billion this year alone to wind power companies not to generate power from their wind turbines. And let’s spend £30billion of taxpayers’ money on carbon capture machines but put pensioners, farmers and the disabled into financial peril by claiming there’s a £22bn black hole.”

My daughter (3yo) and I were walking through an aisle when an older man approached us. He was smiling and seemed friendly enough at first. Without much conversation, he pulled out a lollipop and tried to offer it directly to her. Before my toddler could even react, I calmly said, “No, thank you.” My daughter also declined immediately, which honestly made me feel a little proud in the moment. She’s learning to respond the same way I do. But instead of accepting that, he kept going. He leaned in again, still trying to hand it to her, speaking to her directly like I hadn’t just said “No” politely. It wasn’t aggressive, but it also wasn’t respectful of the boundary that had already been set. So I stepped in more firmly. I took the lollipop from his hand, repeated, “No, thank you,” and placed it on a nearby counter. I didn’t raise my voice, I didn’t make a scene, I just made it very clear that the answer wasn’t changing. And that’s when the tone shifted. He said I was…

@stephenRB4 I threw out the vast majority of my physical books. I've only bought myself one new physical book during the last five years.

@Kristinartz Many. Still refer to my Bero flour cook book which I sent away for after using it with my mother for basic recipes. Prefer to see recipes written down on paper. I might only use one or two recipes from a cook book .. but it's nice to have a permanent copy.

My kids think it's crazy, but we used to have a full set of cookbooks on the kitchen shelf instead of YouTube. Be honest, who still owns and uses real physical cookbooks?

It’s being reported that Britain is preparing for food shortages because of the Iran war. This sort of food supply jeopardy would be significant reduced if British governments actually prioritised and supported British farmers. Food for thought.

@EmmelineWyndham Yes but just purchased couple of small fan heaters to use intermittently, supplemented by log burner - trying to reduce dependancy on central heating (oil) .... at the price per litre trying to use for hot water only.

I feel like my family has an excessive amount of laundry. I can never ever get ahead. It is always just mountains of laundry. I do laundry every week yet there are always mountains of it I tend to wash all the clothes & fold/put them away within 1-2 days I have started paying attention. I did all of the laundry 7 days ago. Today I did all of the laundry again I have 6 pairs of clothes to put away. That makes sense My daughter has 12 My son has 15 somehow I don’t excessively change my children’s clothes & tbh when they’re home they are so often in the backyard in their underwear so HOW ARE THERE SO MANY CLOTHES IN THE LAUNDRY Dude has 8 pairs of shorts/pants but 12 (!!!!) tshirts + 5 days of work uniform (so that makes it 14 pairs of clothes, but 5 days of those non-work clothes he would only have worn for a few hours in the evening after taking off uniform & he generally doesn’t do anything too strenuous on weekday evenings so those clothes aren’t really dirty) MY FAMILY IS JUST THROWING CLEAN FUCKING CLOTHING INTO THE HAMPERS I AM GONNA LOSE MY MIND
