Today is Land Day. 50 years ago today, six un-armed Palestinians were killed by Israeli forces and more than 100 were injured during protests against Israel’s confiscation of Palestinian land. Palestinians observe today by holding protest marches and planting olive trees.

Since propagandists are attacking Cardinal Pierbattista Pizzaballa for wearing a keffiyeh, here are two more great photos of the Cardinal with the keffiyeh. He is deeply loved by the Palestinian people.

For the last two weeks of Lent, every statue and crucifix in a Catholic church is covered in purple cloth Most people assume it is mourning It is not The Church covers the images so you miss them The absence is the instruction When you walk in and everything is veiled, your senses register the loss before your mind does You want them back You begin to understand what it means to live without the thing you did not know you needed The Alleluia disappears from the liturgy at the same time A silence where the word was On Easter Sunday the veils come off and the Alleluia returns The Church does not explain the resurrection It makes you feel the absence first

✝️🇮🇱 - It should be noted that the Palm Sunday Mass has never been prevented by those ruling the Holy Land since 1349, when the Black Death was ravaging the world. While the public was barred from entry in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the clergy were still permitted to conduct the rites. Neither the Six-Day War nor the Israeli War of Independence saw a formal ban on the Mass, and there is no evidence to suggest it did not take place. Ottoman and Mamluk rulers never issued such restrictive measures during their centuries of rule over Jerusalem. The last authorities to formally prohibit this Mass for political reasons were the Fatimids, prior to the destruction of the Church of the Holy Sepulchre in 1009. No political entity has prevented this Mass in over 1,000 years.

This is an uncomfortable topic, but Scripture does say that God doesn’t hear the prayers of those who are in mortal sin (if they haven’t repented) We know that God does not listen to sinners… (Jn 9:31) If I have looked at iniquity in my heart, the Lord will not hear me (Ps 65:18) …your sins have hidden his face from you so that he does not hear (Is 59:2) Whoever turns away his ear from hearing the law, even his prayer is an abomination (Prov 28:9)

Pope Francis wrote about this quite beautifully in Our Father: “The poor guy goes away, finds no way out, and hangs himself. However, there is one thing that makes me think that the story of Judas does not end there. Maybe someone will think, ‘This pope is a heretic.’ Not at all! Go look at a specific medieval capital or column in the Basilica of Saint Mary Magdalene in Vézelay, in Burgundy. The men of the Middle Ages did catechesis through architecture, sculptures, images. On one side of the capital is Judas after he hanged himself, but on the other is the Good Shepherd lifting him onto his shoulders and taking him with him. On the lips of the Good Shepherd is the hint of a smile that I would not call ironic, but somewhat shrewdly knowing. Behind my desk, I keep a photograph of this capital divided into two sections, because it helps me meditate. There are many ways to be ashamed; despair is one of them, but we must try to help the desperate so that they may find the true path of shame, and not travel the one that ends with Judas ... Shame is a grace.”

Cardinal Pizzaballa: “It is true that the police had said that the orders from the internal command prevented any kind of gathering in places where there is no shelter, but we had not asked for anything public, just a brief and small private ceremony to preserve the idea of the celebration in the Holy Sepulchre. There were no clashes; everything was done in a very polite manner. I do not want to force the issue; we want to use this situation to try to clarify better in the coming days what to do, in respect for everyone's safety but also in respect for the right to prayer."

For decades, Israel has always denied Palestinian Christians access to the Church of Holy Sepluchre with full impunity, today it’s denying religious leaders access to hold Palm Sunday mass:

Today, for the first time in centuries, the Latin Patriarch of Jerusalem was prevented from celebrating Palm Sunday Mass at the Church of the Holy Sepulchre in Jerusalem, having been stopped and turned away by Israeli Police.

The pope condemned war and Israel’s response was to kick a cardinal out of Jerusalem and cancel Palm Sunday mass for the first time in centuries. CATHOLICS YOU ARE NOW ON FRAUD WATCH IF YOU TAKE THIS SITTING DOWN!
