The Kenya-Haiti mission has shaped up to be one of the biggest foreign policy failures & PR disasters no one wants to talk about. It was sold to Kenyans as a mission to: - Retake gang-controlled areas - Secure key infrastructure (ports, roads, hospitals, airports) - Protect civilians & humanitarian corridors - Strengthen the Haitian police - Create conditions for elections - And even delete barbecue But what changed? Today, gangs still control most of Port-au-Prince, and large parts of the country remain unstable. Yes, there were some limited gains: - Temporary control of parts of the airport zone - Joint patrols with Haitian police - Protection of some government facilities - Preventing the total collapse of some state functions But most of these gains were temporary. And then there’s the painful reality: a Kenyan police officer died in the mission, and his remains were never returned to Kenya. At this point, Kenyans deserve honesty: Was this mission really about restoring order in Haiti, or was it more about money and international optics?
