@sg_sykes @rhipratchett I'm the same. It's been there on my shelf for years and I can't even bring myself to open it. Maybe for the 25th anniversary?

Eleven years since you crossed the black sands. I wish I could say that the world is better than you left it (although it will always be better for having had you in it) but at least there is a new Young Sam to help carry on the Pratchett name and ethos. Love you always ❤️

@jk_rowling In fairness to the celebrities, they are totally unqualified, probably not particularly bright and were trusting the "experts". They probably didn't know any better. The MDs did know better but lied.

And it will forever be appalling to me that a bunch of celebrities with influence over young people used their platforms to amplify unevidenced claims for the benefit of transitioning minors while smearing those urging caution as bigots.
DogsoverCats 🦴@chunderboolt

@jk_rowling It will forever be amazing to me that people with medical degrees got in front of a camera and said that the effects of puberty blockers on children and adolescents are fully reversible. The horror.

Hi all, You may have noticed I wasn’t at the Academy yesterday. I’ve been doing some joint CPD with our partner academy. Starting tomorrow there’ll be new marking and behaviour policies and another 30 sets of acronyms for you to learn for Friday. There will be a test. Thanks x

@AnnEmmett @Jenny_1884 That is not accurate. Qualified, independent prescribing pharmacists are allowed to assess, diagnose and prescribe for a range of conditions. A chest infection falls into the allowed conditions.

Husband phoned Drs as he has a chest infection. Receptionist said to go to local pharmacy as they can give him antibiotics. Goes to Tesco Pharmacy & told they aren’t allowed to give out antibiotics & needs to see the Dr. Do these people actually know what they are doing 🙀

Daughter, who is studying Veterinary Medicine, rang me. "Guess what we were taught about today? Learning styles". Why? Why is this nonsense still doing the rounds?

I honestly do not understand why people I like and follow attack @tombennett71 personally? You don't have to agree with what he says, but the ad hominem stuff just lowers the tone and cheapens your position. Disappointed. I like the man.

I loved this as a child. (No, I was not a boy, although I suspect if I showed an interest in it today, I would be on blockers in a hot minute!) I mentioned this to a friend and they had no idea what I was talking about. I cannot be the only child in the UK who had one….

TBH if this means Brain Gym, Learning Styles, Reading Recovery etc are inspection red flags, then I'm behind this. Somewhere in the accountability system there needs to be some lines drawn that say, 'This is junk.' You can't just do *anything* and hope it works. Do we want to be professionals or not? a) If yes, then we accept professional guidelines of practice. b) If no, then stop pretending it's a profession, and admit you think it's just sorcery and vibes. Get your diamond nines and learning crystals out... and start your own school. Doctors can't just decide to wave flowers at a hernia and hope it works. The reason they can even have professional judgement is because they are guided by parameters of scientific probability. Otherwise judgement becomes guess work.

Ofsted has been accused of 'mission creep' after it emerged new inspections will mark down teacher training providers that allow the use of 'discredited' research – with the watchdog refusing to say what studies would fall into this category schoolsweek.co.uk/row-over-new-o…

A school has been heavily criticised this week by parents for this new set of behaviour expectations, any thoughts?

@tombennett71 Why do people not seem to grasp the fact that you can be both strict and provide a high level of support?

Strict doesn’t mean ‘excessively punitive’ it means having high alignment with your expectations. Only a tiny fraction of schools have silent corridors. I have never seen a ‘zero tolerance’ school in the UK, and I’ve been to more than most, I think. It’s important not to mischaracterise the English system when it is in fact, much more varied than people claim.
ICARS (Int. Coal. Against Restraint and Seclusion)@ICARSBanRandS

🧵“Strict rules dovetail perfectly with inclusion.” But what does strict discipline really mean in England's schools? Silent corridors. Removal rooms. Rigid compliance. Exactly the kind of “no excuses” model U.S. research shows harms disabled and marginalised children most.

@BarryNSmith79 From a Secondary POV: if you train your TAs and provide them with a clear, ambitious succession plan, with opportunities to specialise, as well as to move on to HTLA levels (and to teacher training, if desired), then I have seen them become a significant asset. Otherwise, no.

@JeremyClarkson Sadly, I think this Govt will celebrate at that news. I cannot see any evidence whatsoever that they intend to support the farming industry in this country.

It looks like this year’s harvest will be catastrophic. That should be a worry for anyone who eats food. If a disaster on this scale had befallen any other industry, there would be a lot of wailing and gnashing of teeth.
