Thanks to those who sent in their accessions returns for 2022, we're now working through the data. In the meantime, why not take a look at some of the material collected in 2021, sorted by theme or repository, on our accessions webpages: nationalarchives.gov.uk/accessions/202…

That’s the thing about corporate archives; they’re not “dusty corners” as media sometimes portrays. Most large orgs have them as they’re useful and get used! NR’s is a massive secure warehoused facility. With Britain’s network so old, it helps to know what all past engineers did.

I cannot WAIT to show you the Britannia Bridge @networkrail Archive feature on #TheArchitectureTheRailwaysBuilt in a few weeks. Like the amazing @ICELibrary it’s full of original drawings: its brilliant archivists supply today’s rail engineers with critical historic information.
ICE Library@ICELibrary

Robert Stephenson's Britannia Bridge opened #onthisday 1850. William Fairbairn and Eaton Hodgkinson carried out experiments to design the wrought iron tubes but Fairbairn resigned before the painting of the engineers was commissioned.

A lot of the advice in this new toolkit is relevant to the wider archives sector, so do take a look if you want to find out more about advocacy. Effective advocacy can bring about huge benefits, so has to be a GOOD thing.

Exciting news, today we have published four new catalogues of drawings from Swindon works covering steam locos, diesel hydraulics, carriages, wagons, and road vehicles. That's details of around 25000 extra drawings now available. railwaymuseum.org.uk/research-and-a…

@TurnipRail This will be a huge loss to the transport history sector. A shining example of collaboration between academia and the heritage sector. So sorry to hear it David.

Dear all. It is with great sadness that I have to report that the University of York is withdrawing the Master's Degree in Railway Studies. After 8 years, I am heartbroken. Many thanks to the many wonderful students who put their trust in the programme. You've been great.
