"Unions negotiated wages that kept pace with productivity. Pensions turned decades of labor into guaranteed income. Housing was priced for the people who lived in it, not for investors who'd never set foot inside. A single income covered a family because the economy was structured to allow that.
None of that was automatic. None of it was inevitable. It was built — by policy, by collective bargaining, by a social contract that said if you showed up and did the work, you'd be taken care of. And when we dismantled those systems, we didn't replace them with anything except a motivational poster and a 401(k) login."

@safety @nikitabier Investigative reporter Julie K. Brown (@jkbjournalist), who has covered Jeffrey Epstein for years, has been locked out of her @X account since Saturday and has been unable to regain access. Any help getting her access back would be greatly appreciated.

Many of you are asking how you can help me. My only ask is this: Spread the word about the threats to democracy and how we can fight back. Tel everyone to subscribe to Democracy Docket for free and share its content with everyone you know. Thanks. bit.ly/4a7l1TR

Yesterday, there was rather unusual activity along sections of the Ukraine–Belarus border – on the Belarusian side. We are closely documenting everything and keeping the situation under control. If necessary, we will react.
Ukraine is ready to defend its people and its sovereignty. Everyone who is being drawn into any aggressive actions against Ukraine must understand this.

"Kyiv is no longer waiting for Washington. President Zelenskyy’s strategic shift away from a dialogue with a volatile US leadership is a historic turning point. Ukraine has realized: we must—and we will—win even without the US. But let’s be clear: abandoning Ukraine is the greatest global blunder in American history. End of Leadership: If the US fails to stand by its word, no ally—from Europe to the Pacific—will ever trust American security guarantees again. Empowering Aggressors: By hesitating, Washington is not 'saving money'; it is inviting China, Iran, and Russia to rewrite global rules by force. The Victory is Ours: Ukraine is already winning on the battlefield because we have adapted and found new alliances. After 14 years in this fight, I see the irony: the United States is risking a historic strategic defeat not on the battlefield, but in its own corridors of power. Ukraine will prevail, but the era of American global leadership may end in the trenches of Donbas—through its own indecision.#Ukraine #USA #Trump #Victory

Why the hell isn't this all over the news?

Today, my office and a bipartisan coalition are announcing the shutdown of Purdue Pharma. Under the Sacklers’ control, Purdue developed, manufactured, and misleadingly marketed its deadly opioids, destroying communities and fueling the opioid crisis across the country.

@SNY_Mets @SNYtv @AnthonyDiComo Not firing is one thing. Doubling down on "this is our guy and we're standing by him come what may?" No accountability. Life without consequences must be nice.

Carlos Mendoza is going to remain the Mets' manager, per @AnthonyDiComo
"In the eyes of team decision-makers, the blame should be spread throughout the organization, from baseball operations to the clubhouse...
Club officials do not place the responsibility for that on Mendoza.
Instead, Mendoza will be given a chance to execute one of the more dramatic turnarounds in baseball history. With 131 games still to play, Mets officials believe there is enough time for the Mets to run back up the National League standings..."
David Stearns to DiComo: "We know our record is not what we want, and we know we are capable of more. We don’t view this as a manager problem, and we don’t intend to make a change."

Speaking to reporters in Baltimore today, Pete Alonso said the Mets’ winter overhaul didn’t catch him off guard, as the Orioles quickly emerged as one of the first teams to pursue him in free agency, ultimately building toward what he called “a match made in heaven.”
The Mets showed little interest and never extended an offer, a detail that became relevant when Brandon Nimmo reached out to Alonso in November as he weighed uncertainty about his future in New York. At the time, Nimmo was in limbo after being told by David Stearns that a potential trade with the Rangers would go through if he waived his no-trade clause, prompting him to seek advice from a longtime friend and former Mets teammate.
During that conversation, Nimmo told Alonso, “I really want to be teammates with you.”
Alonso recalled his response:
“I’m like, ‘Listen, they haven’t talked to me at all,’ ” Alonso said. “I’m like, ‘I want to be teammates with you, too, buddy. But listen, this is just where we’re at. They haven’t reached out [to me] at all. You have to do what’s best for your family.’
“Everything just unraveled from there.”

If we had a bigger newsroom, an investigation into this lawyer Tim Parlatore would be something we’d have done by now. He found a loophole to work for the Pentagon under Hegseth without having to leave private practice by becoming a Naval reserve officer.
It’s insane. He represents people suing the Pentagon while working at the Pentagon, takes money from officers who want promotions from Hegseth, and works for god-knows-who-else. Good line of questioning here x.com/Acyn/status/20…

AOC tells PabloReports that the reinstatement of the agent who shot Renee Good is a reminder of why Democrats should not give ICE and CBP a dime.
AOC: This is the impunity that they feel around us. It should not be done with our votes or our funding. God forbid every single person that that man encounters is in just as grave danger as she was in.

“Looks like he (Zelenskyy) had a couple cards to play, 'cause Ukraine is actually winning against Russia” - Rep Adam smith (D-WA-9) - @RepAdamSmith
“And I'll close just by saying one of the other ironies of this, of course, is we have a great example in the world right now of what our strategy should be and where our values should be, and that's Ukraine. And I'm really curious. You know, here we are, we roll out the red carpet for Vladimir Putin. We belittle and insult President Zelenskyy in the White House. He has no cards, right? Well, here we are a year after that. Looks like he had a couple cards to play, 'cause Ukraine is actually winning against Russia. Ukraine, a sovereign democracy standing up against a brutal, oppressive, coercive dictatorship, and we can't even bring ourselves on a consistent basis to say, "We are with Ukraine, and we are against what Putin is doing," and stand up and support them. So I wanna see that strategy to meet the complex threat environment that we have”

Justice Kagan:
"I dissent. The Voting Rights Act is—or, now more accurately, was—'one of the most consequential, efficacious, and amply justified exercises of federal legislative power in our Nation's history.' It was born of the literal blood of Union soldiers and civil rights marchers. It ushered in awe-inspiring change, bringing this Nation closer to fulfilling the ideals of democracy and racial equality. And it has been repeatedly, and overwhelmingly, reauthorized by the people's representatives in Congress. Only they have the right to say it is no longer needed—not the Members of this Court. I dissent, then, from this latest chapter in the majority's now-completed demolition of the Voting Rights Act."
