⚡️ 🇨🇺 U.S. Moving to Indict Raúl Castro Over 1996 Shootdown of Humanitarian Planes The U.S. is taking steps to indict 94-year-old former Cuban President Raúl Castro in connection with Cuba’s 1996 shootdown of planes operated by humanitarian group Brothers to the Rescue, U.S. officials told CBS News. Brothers to the Rescue was a Miami-based Cuban exile organization that had previously flown hundreds of missions to rescue Cuban rafters in the Florida Straits, but had also dropped leaflets over Cuba urging the population to rise up against the Castro government. Cuba had warned it would shoot down further incursions. The first aircraft was shot down 9 nautical miles outside Cuban territorial airspace, and the second was shot down 10 nautical miles outside, according to radar data recorded by a U.S. Customs Service surveillance balloon in the Florida Keys. Cuba disputed this, claiming the planes had entered Cuban airspace. The potential indictment would need grand jury approval. It comes the same day CIA Director John Ratcliffe met with Castro’s grandson in Havana to deliver President Trump’s message that the U.S. is prepared to engage — but only if Cuba makes “fundamental changes.”

Padres pitcher Mason Miller and Grogu starred in a new Star Wars promo 👀 And Mason got a little help from Grogu on a pitch 🤣

Keynes was right about Versailles. Keynes was right about the gold standard. Keynes was right about liquidity traps. Keynes was right about fiscal stimulus. Keynes was right about Bretton Woods.

HHS through @ASPRgov and @CDCgov is supporting @StateDept in the repatriation of 17 American citizens from the MV Hondius cruise ship affected by the Andes variant of hantavirus. All 17 are currently en route via @StateDept airlift to the United States, with two of the passengers travelling in the plane's biocontainment units out of an abundance of caution. One passenger currently has mild symptoms and another passenger tested mildly PCR positive for the Andes virus. As of now, the airlift will transport passengers to the ASPR Regional Emerging Special Pathogen Treatment Center (RESPTC) at the University of Nebraska Medical Center/Nebraska Medicine in Omaha, Nebraska before taking the passenger with mild symptoms to a second RESPTC at its final destination. Upon arrival at each facility, each individual will undergo clinical assessment and receive appropriate care and support based on their condition.

In a devastating move for Biscoff cookie fans, Delta Air Lines announced it will no longer serve free snacks and beverages to economy passengers on flights of less than 350 miles, starting May 19. Our travel reporters have thoughts: wapo.st/4tWN1AR
