Few months ago I joined @BelgiumMFA, an inspiring journey in which I learn every day. Therefore I'd like to share with you some facts & figures about our Diplomacy, Consular Affairs & DevCoop. Here are #mybefacts, a sneak peak in the too little known world of 🇧🇪 external action!

(FR/NL) La situation au Moyen-Orient reste instable. Des changements de dernière minute sont inévitables. Des itinéraires qui changent, des horaires qui bougent, des autorisations qui se débloquent au dernier moment. C'est la réalité d'opérations complexes dans un environnement qui évolue d'heure en heure. C'est stressant, nous en sommes pleinement conscients. Mais les choses avancent. Les autorisations de vol sont obtenues une par une, en étroite collaboration avec les pays de la région qui fournissent un travail remarquable dans des circonstances extrêmement difficiles. Un avion militaire sous pavillon luxembourgeois est en ce moment même en route vers l'Europe avec des Belges à bord. Ce même appareil repartira ensuite sous pavillon belge vers Mascate pour y récupérer 185 compatriotes, actuellement en route par bus vers Oman. Merci au Sultanat d'Oman pour cette précieuse coopération. Une équipe de 4 personnes des Affaires étrangères est sur place à Mascate, aux côtés de notre consul honoraire, pour accueillir et prendre soin de nos compatriotes à leur arrivée. La planification a été adaptée en raison de la complexité de la situation. Le départ de Mascate est désormais prévu demain. C'est la réalité d'une zone de conflit où des missiles sont tirés, où des dizaines de pays organisent simultanément des évacuations, et où les pays de la région doivent tout coordonner en temps réel. Parallèlement, nous travaillons avec les autorités des EAU pour tenter d'obtenir des départs directement depuis leur territoire. Toutes les pistes sont explorées. Nous suivons également de très près la situation au Liban, y compris si des évacuations devaient y être envisagées. Merci aussi au Luxembourg, aux Pays-Bas, à Chypre et à la Slovénie d'avoir pris en charge des ressortissants belges. La solidarité européenne prend tout son sens, une fois encore. Je mesure l'angoisse de ceux qui attendent, et de leurs familles ici en Belgique. Nous faisons tout ce qui est en notre pouvoir pour vous ramener. __________________ De situatie in het Midden-Oosten blijft instabiel. Last-minute wijzigingen zijn onvermijdelijk. Routes die veranderen, uren die verschuiven, vergunningen die op het laatste moment worden vrijgegeven. Dat is de realiteit van complexe operaties in een omgeving die van uur tot uur evolueert. Dat is stressvol, we zijn ons daar ten volle van bewust. Maar alles komt in orde. De vliegvergunningen worden een voor een verkregen, in nauwe samenwerking met de landen in de regio die uitstekend werk leveren in bijzonder moeilijke omstandigheden. Een militair vliegtuig onder Luxemburgse vlag is op dit moment onderweg naar Europa met Belgen aan boord. Datzelfde toestel vliegt daarna onder Belgische vlag terug naar Muscat om er 185 landgenoten op te halen, die nu per bus onderweg zijn naar Oman. Dank aan het Sultanaat Oman voor die waardevolle samenwerking. Een team van 4 medewerkers van Buitenlandse Zaken is ter plaatse in Muscat, samen met onze ereconsul, om onze landgenoten bij aankomst op te vangen en bij te staan. De planning is aangepast door de complexiteit van de situatie. Het vertrek vanuit Muscat is nu voorzien voor morgen. Dat is de realiteit van een conflictzone waar raketten worden afgevuurd, waar tientallen landen tegelijk evacuaties organiseren, en waar de landen in de regio alles in real time moeten coördineren. Tegelijkertijd werken we met de autoriteiten van de VAE om ook repatriëringen rechtstreeks vanuit dat land mogelijk te maken. Alle pistes worden bewandeld. We volgen ook de situatie in Libanon van zeer nabij op, inclusief de mogelijkheid dat ook daar evacuaties overwogen moeten worden. Dank ook aan Luxemburg, Nederland, Cyprus en Slovenië om Belgische landgenoten naar huis te brengen. De Europese solidariteit toont opnieuw haar waarde. Ik besef hoe beklemmend het wachten is, voor wie daar zit én voor de families hier in België. We doen al het mogelijke om u thuis te brengen. @BelgiumMFA

🇻🇪 The Venezuelians deserve a democratic and legitimate regime, what they have been lacking with Maduro. Maduro must be held accountable for his actions. At the same time, as tirelessly repeated by Belgium, international law must be respected, in all circumstances. We all have an interest in a respected rules-based order. We hope for a swift de-escalation and for a peaceful transition. The civilian population must be spared. I keep on closely monitoring the situation. The safety of our citizens remains our top priority. @BelgiumMFA

(FR/NL) 🇺🇳🇵🇸 La Belgique a porté un message clair : pour parvenir à une solution à deux États, il faut aussi un État palestinien. Nous avons joint hier le groupe de pays ayant reconnu l’Etat de Palestine sur la scène diplomatique internationale. La légitimité de cet État et l’humanité de son peuple ne font aucun doute. C’est le signal politique et diplomatique qu’a exprimé le Premier ministre @Bart_DeWever, en parfaite cohérence avec le droit international, empreint d’espoir mais aussi de responsabilité. La reconnaissance juridique de l’État palestinien sera formalisée une fois que tous les otages auront été libérés et que les organisations terroristes auront été écartées de la gouvernance palestinienne. En signant la Déclaration de New York, la Belgique réaffirme son engagement envers une paix juste et durable, fondée sur la coexistence pacifique entre Israéliens et Palestiniens, dans le respect des droits et de la sécurité de chacun. Gisteren sloten we ons aan bij de groep landen die de staat Palestina op het internationale diplomatieke toneel hebben erkend. De legitimiteit van die staat en de waardigheid van zijn volk staan buiten kijf. Dat is het politieke en diplomatieke signaal dat premier @Bart_DeWever bracht, volledig in lijn met het internationaal recht, hoopvol maar ook verantwoordelijk. De juridische erkenning van Palestina zal pas worden geformaliseerd zodra alle gijzelaars zijn vrijgelaten en terroristische organisaties geen rol meer spelen in het Palestijnse bestuur. Met de ondertekening van de New York Declaration bevestigt België zijn inzet voor een rechtvaardige en duurzame vrede, gebaseerd op vreedzame co-existentie van Israëli’s en Palestijnen, in respect voor ieders rechten en veiligheid. Saddened and shocked to read this news. I had the chance to meet Rafaella in her role as EU CdA in AFG, and was impressed as much by her dynamism and expertise as by her commitment to improve the lot of Afghan people. My most sincere condolences to her family and colleagues.
