Applications are now open for the Shenoy Undergraduate Research Fellowship in Neuroscience (SURFiN) program for the 2025–26 academic year. The SURFiN program aims to spark and sustain interest in neuroscience among undergraduate students who have not had access to research opportunities. The paid fellowships will run from Sept 2025 - May 2026. Deadline to apply: May 1. For more info: bit.ly/4l2YAlY

I am really sorry for the ~4000 staff who were fired at NIH this morning. This is a major unjustified hit to a premier research institution that weakens science in the US. My heart is breaking for you.
@LaBonneLaB@labonnelab

My heart is breaking for the ~4000 staff that were fired at NIH this morning and the ones in intramural research awaiting emails telling them if they too are being fired. This includes anyone probationary:Research Fellows, Staff Scientists, GS employees, Tenure-tracks

Excited to see this come out! Miles, an undergraduate in the lab, led this project and plans to keep it maintained and up to date as he transitions to being a graduate student. doi.org/10.1093/bioinf…

Our JoVE video article on imaging CA1 in mice engaged in odor plume navigation is out!
JoVE@JoVEJournal

⭐ Behind the Scenes with Our Latest JoVE Video Article Publication! 🧠 We’re excited to give you a look at research from Fabio Simoes de Souza, Ryan Williamson, Connor McCullough, and their colleagues at the @CUSystem Anschutz Medical Campus, exploring how hippocampal CA1 neurons contribute to mice navigating odor plumes. Using advanced miniscope technology to record calcium signals, this team is uncovering new insights into how the brain processes spatial and olfactory information. Key Finding: “It’s possible to decode the trajectory of a mouse navigating an odor plume based on neuronal ensemble calcium signals in dorsal CA1,” the researcher shares. 📄 Learn more here: lnkd.in/eauiwj-T @LabRestrepo

Did you know that expectation of how a food should taste influences what you think it tastes like? Our expectations, drawn from previous experiences, are very important in enhancing or diminishing how we perceive the foods and beverages we eat and drink. nyaspubs.onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/full/10.11…

Hey Neurotweeps!! What are Youuuuu doing to revive the BRAIN initiative? Thanks to @CoryMillerMarmo and @ardemp for leading the charge in opening up a dialogue about the importance of BRAIN Initiative funding, which is much needed to get all the essential neuroscience that falls thru the cracks of funding mechs at NIH (like tech, or multidiscipl), to train new generations, to be the connective tissues that makes the most of an investment initiated a decade ago to do everything from cure disease to improve AI.
Ardem Patapoutian@ardemp

Thanks to Congressman @RepScottPeters for meeting with neuroscientists in San Diego from @salkinstitute, @UCSDNeuro, and @scrippsresearch. We discussed the importance of the BRAIN Initiative and overall @NIH funding for neuroscience & biomedical research.
