In her final days, when she was told she would not survive, he himself moved her to a different floor so his sleep wouldn't be disturbed by her cries of pain at night. She was left to die and died much earlier than predicted. My sister says she was struggling to breathe, yet no one arranged an oxygen cylinder at home. She was taken to a nearby hospital for a few hours, but brought back home because staying there throughout the night would have been inconvenient. She died a few days before Holi this year, and her favourite son did not even come to see her despite her constant pleas. When he finally came, it was days after her cremation. They completed all the rituals only for the sake of society, and both love and grief were missing for her. My mother was traumatised seeing how everyone abandoned her in her final days. But yeah, women are wanted, only as long as they serve. When they need care, they become a burden.
