What separates great players is the choice to give their best even if no one else is watching. You’re only as good as your private standards. How committed are you when the spotlight is turned off? That’s where champions are built.

Congratulations to the Dinuba High boys basketball team, which edged Mission College Prep, 46-42, at Selland Arena. Dinuba last won 32 years ago. The Royals’ Roman Benedetti and the Emperors’ Josh Ochoa were players of the game. Amazing atmosphere to close Day 1 of finals!

Dinuba brought the whole town with them. Emperors closed first quarter on 9-0 run to take 11-9 lead over Mission Prep in D2 boys’ final.

Coaches aren’t in the business of begging players to get in the gym or come to camps, but if you don’t, don’t come later begging for playing time. It doesn’t work that way. Players get playing time by earning it. If you don’t earn it, save yourself the trouble of asking for it!

Coaches never need to hear you TALK about how good you are. SHOW us. Every rep. Every drill. Every lift. Every practice. Do extra. Be extra. Get extra conditioning. Come early; stay late. Even when you don’t feel like it. Especially then. That’s what your coaches need to SEE!

PLAYERS: If you're the most talented player on your team, you should also be hardest worker on the team. Lead by example. Set the standard. Be the standard.

PLAYERS: Be a player that is HARD to play against but EASY to play with. You should be a dream teammate but a nightmare for the opposition.
