If God is “done with Israel” and the Jewish people are no longer God’s chosen and the Christian church has taken the place of Israel, then why does the Bible tell us of a geographic and also spiritual regathering of the Jews? Neither of these has happened yet, although arguably the former is currently happening and has been since 1948 but isn’t yet in completion. Furthermore, the Bible tells us of a time of judgment, purification, and testing of Israel before their spiritual regathering and as a result of their rebellion against God, so I don’t understand how saying that God isn’t done with Israel and that the Jews are still God’s chosen is somehow “simping” for Jews. We know God is going to discipline them and then regather them into spiritual fulfillment with the Messiah. It seems to me that Christians who seek to portray the Jews as no longer God’s chosen actually don’t read scripture and interpret them being God’s chosen as some type of tacit endorsement of rejecting the Messiah—when clearly it’s not. In other words, physical descent doesn’t guarantee covenant status faith does. No commentator, pundit, or modern voice has the authority to reverse what God Himself has declared. Jesus said in John 4:22, “Salvation is from the Jews.” That is not a side note. It is central to understanding who He is and how God’s plan unfolds. Christianity does not replace Israel. It is joined to Israel. Paul explains this in Romans 11:17–18 when he warns Gentile believers not to boast against Israel: “You, though a wild olive shoot, have been grafted in among the others… do not consider yourself superior to those other branches.” The Church shares in the promises given to Israel, but those promises remain rooted in the people to whom God first gave them. Church history confirms what Scripture teaches. The early Fathers acknowledged Israel’s election. The Catholic Catechism teaches that “to the Jews belong the covenants, the law, the worship, the promises, and from them is the Christ” (CCC 839–840). Vatican II’s Nostra Aetate solemnly declared that God’s covenant with the Jewish people has never been revoked.
