The scam is...what? I asked them to create a market on the legal (de jure) leader of Venezuela. According to Venezuela's constitution, Maduro can't technically stay President for 12 months while absent. But I thought Venezuela may change or reinterpret that law (as many autocracies do). The reason I asked for a de jure market is that you can't really argue it (and if you can, you create a neutral tiebreaker with who the UN recognizes). Someone who is officially the president is far less debatable than the de facto, or acting, leader. Because the person with the ACTUAL power can get very chaotic and debatable. One of the OG rule fights was whether Gaddafi was still leader of Libya after he fled the capitol, but remained in Libya (de jure vs de facto). This avoids that fight. It's not my fault that people priced it totally wrong and assumed stupid stuff. Aside from the official govt site and the UN, Delcy has said publicly -- repeatedly -- that Maduro is still the President. So there's really no excuse to price it that poorly. I thought it was easily worth 20%+, because it's the status quo.

To illustrate, imagine making a watch that costs $1,000 to manufacture available exclusively on the IRS rewards store, redeemable for 5 million rewards points. The watch would be a huge status symbol, and someone with 4.98 million rewards points may pay an extra $20k taxes voluntarily just to obtain the watch. And people who are currently underreporting income will be more likely to accurately report what they owe so that they don't look poor compared to their peers. Basically allows the government to tax vanity.

Hopefully having my most painful day of 2026 today (writing checks to IRS and state taxing authorities). Idea I had years ago that would make paying taxes fun and would almost certainly pay for itself would be for the government to have a rewards system that allows you to receive exclusive gifts based on amount of taxes paid. Each dollar paid = 1 reward point on IRS account, redeemable on IRS schwag store for exclusive experiences (tours of gov buildings, NASA launches), coin mints, national park passes etc.

Just got around to mailing super bowl winners. Woulda been higher EV to just bet everything game day on Kalshi, but this is how it feels going to a dingy off-strip casino in Vegas to bet No Safety at -1000 for the limit

@FezzikSports @PlayProphetX Anyone who doesn’t understand why it’s harder to win an a low bid/ask exchange full of sharps than a sportsbook has no chance of winning at a sportsbook. So you may as well play at the exchange and lose 1.5% instead of 4.5%

My favorite FREEZING HOT take: Don't lay -103 on @PlayProphetX since you will be up against the best players in the world. Instead make the IDENTICAL bet -110 vs. a Sports Book. The traditional books say their data and their studies show you will do better making these type of bets....

Trump likes to make big bets and wild rhetorical gambits. He is a gambler, and when people declare TACO, what they are observing is that he will simply fold his hand when he's drawing dead. People consider this a deficiency, but it's actually one of his great strengths.

My view is that 1. We are not stuck in a long-term quagmire with catastrophic geopolitical/economic consequences, and 2. Iran is a rational actor who predictably responds to incentives. This bodes well for negotiations and provides more maneuverability than people realize.

@AnthonyDabbundo The greatest fault of the article, beyond anything else, is just that it's super boring. The guy is a ninny, was betting pennies on completely random things and probably hasn't placed a bet since finishing the article.

“It only took a few weeks before I was hiding in the kitchen pantry to put my bets in, so my kids didn’t see how much I was gambling”: @TheAtlantic gave @mckaycoppins $10,000 as part of his investigation into online sports gambling — and he came out with far less money and some insight into how gamblers get hooked on apps like FanDuel and DraftKings.
