What does gentleness look like in the life of a Leader when someone disagrees with them?
They refuse to attempt to get their way by using force, manipulation, anger, passive aggressiveness, relentless argumentation, scheming, revenge, or demonizing another's character.

@pj_schreiner If the "fallen angels" having intimate relations with women in Gen 6 is correct, what keeps demons from attacking women today? You may be right, and I give to collective wisdom of you, John Gerstner and Heisler, but I have never heard a satisfactory answer to this question.

I held the "fallen angels" view of Genesis 6 long before I read Heiser and I'm still most persuaded by this interpretation.

(a) Humans are made in the image of God.
(b) Even Jesus said, "you are worth more than many sparrows."
Does that mean we were worthy to be saved? Of course not. God owed us nothing.
But in terms of value, Man is worth more than animals.

I have heard it said, “God didn’t die for frogs. He died for humans, implying we were worth the sacrifice.” This turns grace on its head. We are less deserving than frogs. They have not sinned. They have not rebelled and treated God with the contempt of being inconsequential in their lives. God did not have to die for frogs. They aren’t bad enough. We are. Our debt is so great, only a divine sacrifice could pay it.

Just a reminder that complete Bibles are extremely rare for much of Christian history because, as you can see from this pictures of the 7th c. Codex Amiatinus, they were massive. This one happens to be the oldest surviving complete copy of Jerome’s Latin Vulgate.

@megbasham @CatholicJosh @michaeljknowles @grok There is an argument that can be made that these we Joseph's sons from a first marriage. Joseph being in his 50's at his betrothal to Mary. and therefore by adoption Jesus' bothers, but not necessarily the children of Mary.

1) there is a Greek word for cousins and it’s not used. And while the term could hypothetically refer to other relatives, its literal meaning is brothers. And it makes a lot more sense why Mary’s other sons would be mentioned along with her and Joseph, and not some random cousins when the people ask, “Is not this the carpenter 's son? Is not his mother called Mary? And are not his brothers James and Joseph and Simon and Judas?” in Matt 13.
2) Matt 1 says “But he [Joseph] had no union with her [Mary] until she gave birth to a son.” UNTIL.

@oldreepicheep @BethCavete @ChaplainKat And there is a lot of coercive control with these guys over their wives as well. I find the biggest jerks have the nicest wives. It’s a survival instinct.

I think that's in play for a lot of them. It can be economics: they may hate what their husbands are doing, but if they blow the whistle, their whole world comes crashing down: they're out of their house, income, and possibly out of their church.
So the incentive to go along and get along can be high.
It's frustrating, because while I can empathize with their issues, the fact remains: their silence means victims get screwed.
I have seen two cases firsthand, however, where the pastor's wife had no idea.

And 9 times out of 10 I will show you standing next to him is an enabling wife who believed her job was to be silent & compliant

One other thing about the dumb “toxic empathy” argument is this. Allie’s framing boils down to “this virtue can lead to something bad, and when it does, it’s toxic empathy.”
But Aristotelian Virtue Ethics understands that virtue is the mean between excess and deficiency.
