@Dabozz29 On the other hand, saying that these nationwide protests against racially-motivated police brutality that were sparked when a black man was murdered aren't about black lives? That's pretty fucking racist. #TuckerCarlsonIsARacist

I was boldly optimistic and thought the margins would break for Harris giving her 300+. I underestimated my fellow Americans yet again. Alas people want the cruelty. Still, she needs 270. Don't give up, folks. It'll go down to the wire and the Rust Belt.

@brandors98 @Ohshidash @grantkirkhope The word you're looking for is worldview, not religion. Your worldview is the sum total of your beliefs and perspectives of the world, hence the name. Your religion is the delineated code and beliefs that are held in common with other people.

Chose to Honor God and not Man today. Hate me if you want, but both candidates are for the murder of babies in the womb. Murder at full term and murder at 6 weeks is still murder. I don’t buy the lesser of two evils for a second. Text book False dichotomy. When given the choice between two evils choose neither. All man must do is obey God at all costs. Knowing that Christ is King and he is sovereign over kings and kingdoms, and he will only be pleased by faithful obedience. Thought @BenZeisloft brought up some great names so I followed suit and voted for my dudes @DustyDeevers and @bradleypierce Christ is King Gents

@annielcrawford Naturalism. You are, at best, talking about naturalism, not atheism. And that just means until anything non-natural is demonstrated, there is no reason to believe it exists.

Atheism is a Procrustean worldview. It simply cuts off any parts of reality that will not fit within its limited paradigm and it stretches the quality of matter to fit its needs. If consciousness cannot be explained by molecules in motion, it will simply cut it out of existence. If we need morality to make the scientific endeavor work, then it will stretch the capacities of material evolution to justify it. (The genes *want* to survive!) It keeps the world small enough to be grasped and reason inflated enough to do the grasping.

@brandors98 @Ohshidash @grantkirkhope Then not believing in vampires is also a religion. Believing in the sun is a religion. Believing or not believing anything is a religion. Your definition of religion is stupid and useless.

@Ohshidash @grantkirkhope Seeing as religion/cults require worship and worship is formed from one's devotion to a concept. Ergo, the belief of Atheism is a religion in of itself.

If atheism is true, then: •There’s no reason for our existence •There’s no right and wrong •There’s no meaning •There’s no free will Yet most atheists are obsessed with politics, as if any of it actually matters. Why is that?

Trump is babbling complete nonsense “Hopefully they'll be able to get these expensive computers going. You know, the reason you use computers is to make time so that it's like fast. You don't use them so that you have to come up with an answer three days later. And that's a little scary when they say what, what are they doing? You use a computer because it calculates quickly and you use paper because you save cost, but the paper turns out to be much quicker than the computer”

You're not arguing that YOU believe that rape is wrong. You're arguing that people MAY or MAY NOT believe rape is wrong, it's up to them to decide, yet somehow, revulsion at rape is also coded in our genetics. Your argument contradicts itself. The victim of rape lacks: 1. Freedom of will to participate in rape, 2: Moral agency to decide whether to be raped or not. The victim of rape is harmed as a result of the rape. No rape occurs where the above conditions are not met. A person's belief about whether or not these conditions are met is irrelevant. They are objectively real conditions of a rape. They are objectively harmful. They violate the person's autonomy. They are less than the greatest possible good. Rape therefore is objectively wrong.

@MrEncouragement @Chappie_DLS @Emerald_Rose0 @smashbaals You're listing a standard for why rape is wrong. What's your evidence that every single person throughout history shared that same standard? Do you have any idea how recent women's rights are? For much of history, rape was pretty much a property crime, nothing to do with consent.

Strawman is made of straw, man. Look, to be fair, I'm sure that's all you're hearing, because it's clear you're not getting some of the arguments. I've tried to make them clear. Maybe I have done a poor job. In philosophy and science, we're on a quest for truth. Our opinions don't matter. Truth matters. You can't make truth be what you want it to be. It's objective and independent of you. And so is morality. There's zero virtue in saying "Ghostbusters is the best movie ever made." Everyone has their own opinions, and when someone disagrees with you, you can politely disagree, but there's no objective reality that is shared. When someone says "Nope, Nosferatu was the best," their choice is as valid as yours. But rape -- yes, rape -- is wrong, and it's always wrong, and whether you're emotional or not about it, the victim of rape has neither the free will to participate nor the moral agency to consent to it, by definition. Objectively, the object of the rape is a victim. Whether or not you think rape is okay is completely irrelevant. Whether or not the rapist has made an excuse saying "She was asking for it," or "She was teasing me," or whether he admits straight out that he did it, it is wrong. And it's wrong NOT because the victim didn't like it or because some people think rape is good. It's wrong because it is harmful; it is less than the ultimate standard of the greatest possible good. There is no case in which rape is virtuous. I cannot believe you do not have the moral courage to say that is true -- but you don't. It is objectively wrong. And if you think that I'm wasting your time trying to get you to agree that rape is truly wrong and it's always wrong, then I consider my conversation with you a service to the community. Now that we've established that rape is objectively wrong and we know there are objective moral standards, it's easy to continue on to other moral atrocities like genocide and child abuse and wife beating and a whole host of other things which are objectively wrong. Your assertion -- that morality is subjective because people have different opinions -- is wrong. As I've explained and as you have done yourself, the fact that people know they have done wrong is what leads them to make excuses to say that objective morals didn't apply to them in their specific case. You would do well to read Nietzsche's treatise on morality and the death of God. He rightly argues that without God, all things are permissible. Nietzsche, an atheist, rightly connects objective morality with the existence of God. The theist connects objective morality with the existence of God, as well. Both of these positions are defensible. They make logical sense, but both cannot be right. The only position that's logically untenable, that cannot work in practical society is the idea that morality is subjective and it's up to each person to decide what morality means. That quickly leads to the lowest common moral denominator. A different opinion about a thing is not evidence that the thing doesn't exist.
