Caso isolado 3618
g1@g1

It is true. We have more Holy Scripture in the Mass today, yet people remain deeply ignorant of it, often forgetting the readings before they even reach Communion. Despite increased exposure to the Word, church attendance continues to decline. People hear more Scripture and leave the Church? Furthermore, the selective editing of the Lectionary is striking. They added more readings but removed very specific, challenging passages. Why, for instance, is St. Paul’s exhortation regarding receiving Communion in a state of sin no longer read? It appeared three times a year in the TLM lectionary, yet it has been effectively silenced.

@JulieBG54 @FrMatthewLC @CatholicPebble Interesting! One thing that is extraordinary to me is the defence of the TML lectionary. I simply can’t understand why less Scripture is considered better than more! This site is great if you are encouraging people to engage with scripture : #april3" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener">slu.edu/mission-identi…

As someone who thinks the TLM is vastly superior to NO, and who would wish nothing more than for the TLM to become the ordinary rite again, I have a question that bothers me: Why didn't the widespread TLM and reverence prevent the so-called V2 spirit and heterodoxy? And if it didn't, why do we think the widespread use of the TLM now would be able to solve the current apostasy?

The first Mass was celebrated in Brazil exactly 526 years ago. Pêro Vaz de Caminha, the scribe of Pedro Álvares Cabral’s fleet, describes that historic celebration in detail. He recounts that one of the natives, addressing his companions, “pointed his finger toward the altar and then pointed his finger to Heaven.” The natives did not understand Latin. They did not understand Portuguese. They did not know what the Holy Mass was. They did not know what a sacrament was. They did not know what the Catholic Church was. They did not know who Jesus Christ was. They did not know who God was. Even so, upon seeing the respect, beauty, and sacredness of that celebration, they immediately perceived that it was something divine. This is why the Traditional Rite is so important in the Church. There is no better way to express the moment when Heaven becomes present on Earth.

Today I began my ecumenical pilgrimage here in Rome, praying at the tombs of St Peter and St Paul. We walk in the footsteps of the apostles as God’s pilgrim people - with Christ as our cornerstone. Over the coming days, I invite you to journey with me in prayer - especially in the prayer of Jesus for the unity of his disciples and all God’s people. Our world is deeply wounded by war, division and fear, and it longs for the peace, justice, reconciliation and hope that are found in Jesus Christ alone. We are called to proclaim and live this Gospel together, for the sake of the life of the world that God so loves. “That they may all be one. As you, Father, are in me and I am in you, may they also be in us, so that the world may believe that you have sent me.” (John 17:21)

O homem é o chefe do lar. Repito a palavra: empoderamento.

@hf_222222 The easiest way to change Francis's mind was to agree with him. The easiest way to fall out of favor with him was to demonstrate loyalty. A complex figure.

The problem with this story, is Francis used this slur *again* following his supposed show of regret, in an event with priests from the Diocese of Rome. However polite he could be to whoever was in front of him, he was *not* for turning, especially when facing criticism.
James Martin, SJ@JamesMartinSJ

Pope Francis died a year ago today.  I would like to share one memory, which I think reveals something of what made him such a holy man. In May of 2024, after it was reported that Pope had made some negative remarks about gay priests and used an Italian slur (“frociaggine”) in a meeting with Italian bishops, there was a firestorm of reaction. Even I wondered: How could this be? We had had several conversations and notes back and forth about LGBTQ issues. It seemed so out of character. A few weeks later I was scheduled to be in Rome after helping to arrange a papal audience for a group of professional comedians. The pope invited me to see him, along with two friends who served as translators. I asked a cardinal friend how I could possibly bring up something so difficult—the question of gay priests and his use of language. My friend said, “Just say, ‘Holy Father, these things have been much in the news. What thoughts do you have?’” The very first thing Francis said, as if he had been waiting to say it, was that he knew many holy, faithful and celibate gay priests and seminarians. When I suggested that it might help to say so publicly, he said, “Oh, but I think I have. And in any event, you can say that!” I wanted to make sure I understood him, so said, “So you’re saying I can say that you know many holy, faithful and celibate gay priests and seminarians?” He shrugged his shoulders and said, “Of course. Because I do!”  My friends also told him that he shouldn’t have used that slur.  He nodded sadly, and said, “Yes, yes, you’re right.” For the next hour or so, we discussed the word he used, before moving on to other more general topics: the U.S. church, the political scene, and so on. It was a relaxed and friendly conversation, but initially about a tough topic. A few days later, I saw him at the comedians’ audience, when he gave a beautiful reflection on humor in the Sala Clementina. When everyone lined up to shake his hand, I lingered in the back, since I had just seen him. But then several Vatican officials said, “Father, go ahead!”  When I reached his chair, he laughed and said, “Ah, so now you’re a famous American comedian!” I laughed and started to move away, knowing he was probably busy and tired. But he pulled me back insistently. Then the pope said, “Thank you for our meeting the other day. It was helpful for me. I really needed to hear that.” He smiled and then gave me a thumbs up. (Amazingly, a friend sent me video of this very interchange, linked here, where you can see what’s happening.) I thought: Who does this? Who thanks someone for a difficult meeting? Who thanks someone for being challenged? The answer: a person who is open to the Holy Spirit. A person who is not afraid to listen. A person who is truly humble. Something like that doesn’t make you a holy person or a saint on its own, but it’s an important part of holiness.  May this holy man rest in peace.

Appalling. Even if you knew little about Christianity, you would understand the sanctity of this image. And amazing that a Jewish man is desecrating a statue of another Jewish man: "Israeli Soldier in Lebanon Sledgehammered a Statue of Jesus" nytimes.com/2026/04/20/wor…
