@Afzal4Gorton Great initiative thanks.
You might like to see the research published at @InternetClean about disinformation and vaccine conspiracies, and what can be done to tackle it.

@MarkTaber_FII @jimconey Yes, what justification is there for allowing these accounts to pop up, receive large transfers from various accounts and immediately empty them? If banks were made responsible for fraud they would soon find a solution.
English

@jimconey Also banks could starve scammers out of existence by depriving them of ability to receive funds from victims. Proper AML, payee ID, suspicious transaction screening & vulnerable customer processes would do it. Hardly rocket science.

@AlexDaviesJones @CommonsDCMS @JoStevensLabour Who says "later this year" in December? Maybe the answer was published a month early in error.
English

🚨 The UK Gov appear to have confirmed that their long-awaited #onlineharms paper will be published *this* year.
With only a few weeks to go until the end of the year, I won't hold my breath but am extremely hopeful that they keep to their word...

@compinpolitics @Siobhan_Baillie @timesredbox @MoreUnitedUK @CentenaryAction @hopenothate @EngenderScot @CarolineLucas @Debbie_abrahams This raises an important issue. We are a Stroud constituent that set up @InternetClean to tackle some of these issues and would be happy to discuss them with you.

It was an honour to join the @Catch22 panel on #OnlineHarms today. I encourage you to read this fantastic Twitter thread in full.
Online harms are relatively recent phenomena and regulation has simply not kept pace, leaving many exposed to significant harm. We must do more.

"We need to keep up to date with a new dimension of criminality, in order to keep this issue under control," @VictimsComm concludes.

@LordIanAustin @adamlangleben You might want to look at the proposals put forward by @InternetClean to tackled the worst excesses of anonymous accounts.
English

@adamlangleben Of course social media should be regulated.
You couldn’t set up a company to post anonymous and untrue hate mail about someone through other people’s doors.
Newspapers are accountable for what they publish.
Why should social media companies who compete with them be exempt?
English

@AlexDaviesJones @NickKristof Couldn't agree more.
The free speech/libertarian brigade are either wilfully missing the point or acting as "useful idiots" behind which other commercial interests are sheltering. We have waited too long for this Bill.

What an article from @NickKristof 👏
This isn’t about banning porn, it’s about protecting children.
This isn’t about consensual sex, it’s about glorifying rape and sexual assault.
This is why we desperately need the vital Online Harms Bill👇
Nicholas Kristof@NickKristof
I've spent the last few months reporting this piece about Pornhub. What most people don't realize is that it's infested with rape videos. I talked to child trafficking survivors whose rape videos the company had distributed and monetized. Unconscionable: nytimes.com/2020/12/04/opi…

@edfryer @damiengayle @Direthoughts Thanks ✌️ we were trying to find who co-ordinated this. If you look at #onlineharms you’ll find there’s been a large number of bots sending out these tweets in addition to real accounts.
English

@toadmeister @JonAshworth What "pressure" could have been applied by a party that has not been in government for over 10 years? When will you start to take some responsibility for the party and the policies you support?
English

@caitlinmoran @Sathnam We have made proposals at @InternetClean to deal with abuse of anonymity. Would welcome your views.
English

@Sathnam I just don't understand why someone hasn't come along and offered the market a "not Twitter": a social media platform with no anonymised accounts, with firm rules and regulations agreed to when you open your account. it can't be that hard??? Millions would want it.

@wesstreeting We have some sensible proposals at @InternetClean to reduce the incidence of both abusive/threatening language and disinformation online. Would welcome your input.
English

With you 100%, Dawn. There’s no excuse for this kind of abuse and racism against anyone. Social media companies must act and, where necessary, the Police.
Dawn Butler ✊🏾💙@DawnButlerBrent
These are just some of the abusive messages I’ve recieved on social media. It has spiked this week, but it’s been going on for a long time. But I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again - I will not be silenced and I’ll never stop speaking out.
English

@froomkin The social media companies could do far more to help average users assess which other accounts are trustworthy. There are some sensible proposals at @InternetClean for example. Why would Twitter not take them up if it cares for its regular genuine users?
English

@catherinerowett @twose_brian Twitter needs to have a report button that simply says "look at the state of this".
As for the fake accounts, there are a range of sensible proposals at @InternetClean for how to deal with some of the excesses.
English

@twose_brian Yes, I can't make out whether they're ordinary folk wound up to great anger and nastiness by the nasty messaging they receive on their social media, or whether they're trolls maintained by undercover malign influences, out to create disunity and make mayhem. I reported one.
English

@catherinerowett I'm sorry about those attacks on you yesterday from people who I follow, they crossed a line.
I've tried to have a broad spectrum of opinions on my TL, I've noticed a couple of accounts in the past, seemingly pop up and troll good people, I've blocked them.
