@Alonso_GD I doubt khan lives in a high crime area and I doubt the scaffolder who gets jobs in that area is going to mess his work up for a few grand worth of guns

@WeirdMedieval I used to live upstairs from a woman who had been working as a seamstress from her flat for 40 years. There were little pathways between 4 foot high piles of fabric for her to get around. She squashed the moth larvae on her ceiling with a broom handle and left them there 😭

@waronweakness I think the internet more widely! I’m glad I got the chance to go travelling before smartphones and social media, feels like a huge privilege!

@GamewithDave Travelling. The world is becoming more homogenous all the time, it takes a little bit of the shine off going somewhere new. And travelling without a smart phone was more exciting.

@UltraLinx I’ve had crap jobs and I’ve had good jobs, and the crap jobs had far more interesting people doing them 😅

Think about this often.
How many smart and good people never “made it” because things just didn’t align.

Met someone today and realized you just can’t disregard a person just because they didn’t have a successful career. So many sharp, knowledgeable people nowhere close to their potential. Not because of lack of ability. But because life wasn’t kind to them.

@tikto26048 Thought it was beans on crumpet, which is the only way you could improve this breakfast 😌

@Vesper_2005 I’m the only child of a single parent who stopped speaking to her family before I was born. It’s just me and the dog 😅

@ferfdfsrr20399 @0hour1 I’m in the UK, so expensive compared to the US at the best of times 🙃 (£1.55/litre or $2.05)

@LeahFHardy GP apps, parking apps, everything bloody else apps. I have to do everything for my mum (and half of her friends) because of this nonsense. An old boy I see out dog walking can’t sort out his electricity bill because he doesn’t have a laptop or a smart phone 🙃

@EastRenAsks Something where no investigation is needed I would guess. The allegations from a few years ago that the police investigated. I assume he didn’t disclose which would be the issue. Huw Edwards hadn’t been investigated by the time he was suspended.

@eliotranch @LauraMHar One of my friends literally had his engagement dissolve in a really toxic chaotic way, called off the wedding the weekend before it. All because he caught stronger feelings for their third. He is now alone. The whole time before AND EVEN NOW he stays pushing nonmonogamy

I once dated a man who I later discovered was 'polyamorous'* and I ran a million miles because I had the prescience and self-respect (thanks mum and dad) to never want to be in a relationship this fucking miserable.
* If you were on any dating site, but perhaps especially OKCupid in the late 2010s, you couldn't throw a stone without hitting a polyamorist.
I've lost count of the number of deeply boring men who sent me articles about 'compersion' as though that would convince me I really wanted to be in a relationship with them and - by extension - any number of dysfunctional nutters they happened to alight upon.

this passage about progressive author lindy west is the funniest sequence I have ever encountered in the WSJ
