A nice @NEJMEvidence editorial on our article on mortality increase when using #glucorticoids in #covid19 who are not receiving #oxygen x.com/nejmevidence/s… “...under some circumstances, randomized controlled trials can become infeasible as evidence accrues (e.g., randomization to a probable harmful exposure), as in the meta-analysis by Covello et al.” kudos to the authors, especially those who are active on twitter :) @Laura_Pasin @SFresilli @LudhmilaHajjar @azangrillo @SRAnesthesiaICU #medtwitter #Foamed

Meta-analysis is a valuable statistical tool in medical research. In this editorial on a meta-analysis of steroids in Covid-19 patients not on oxygen, Rui Wang, PhD, discusses combining small numbers of randomized clinical trials with observational data. eviden.cc/3ZOETTl

This article had large media coverage in Italy, was poorly interpreted, and has 1 dangerous message YES non-steroideal antinflammatory agents are ok for patients at home (minor benefits) NO! corticosteroids are dangerous and should not be prescribed at home (increase mortality)

LET’S REDUCE TRANSUSION BY 20% WITH #TRANEXAMIC acid #TXA 1/ We helped @PHRIresearch in conducting the #POISE3 #RCT published in the @NEJM and presented #ACC22 also #mortality is reduced by 10% in this @NEJM #RCT on #tranexamic acid. This is probably the most important finding
NEJM@NEJM

Among patients undergoing noncardiac surgery, the incidence of the composite bleeding outcome was significantly lower with tranexamic acid than with placebo. #ACC22 nej.md/3IMTKoz
