If you grew up loving the kind of stories where the stakes are the entire universe and the hero carries something heavier than just saving the day, we have a feeling you’ll enjoy this. His name is Nexus. He was given power by a cosmic entity to hunt down mass murderers across the galaxy. Not because he wanted to. Because he had to, to atone for what his father did. He became the protector of thousands of intergalactic refugees who had nowhere else to go. If that sounds like your kind of story, you’re in the right place. #comicartist #indiecomics #scificomic

Update on Flight Attendant… She was sitting in her jump seat directly behind the cockpit when Air Canada Express Flight 8646 collided with a fire truck on Runway 4 at LaGuardia Airport. On impact, Solange Tremblay, the senior flight attendant on board, was ejected more than 320 feet from the wreckage. She was found on the tarmac, still strapped to her seat. She was conscious for all of it. Her daughter Sarah Lépine called it "a total miracle." Aviation safety experts agreed, saying her survival was extraordinary given the complete destruction of the cockpit just feet from where she was sitting. Her four-point harness jump seat, designed to withstand extreme crash loads, likely saved her life. But Solange's fight is far from over. Her injuries are severe: two shattered legs with open fractures requiring multiple surgeries and metal plates, a fractured spine, skin grafts needed for the flesh she lost sliding across the tarmac, and complications that led to a blood transfusion. She still faces several more surgeries and intensive rehabilitation to learn how to walk again. Her daughter and cousin have set up a GoFundMe to help the family. The funds will allow Sarah and Solange's husband Denis to take time off work to be by her side as she recovers in a New York hospital for the foreseeable future. "My mother dedicated her entire life as a flight attendant and was very proud of her work," Sarah wrote. "Right now, my mom needs your help.”

A major media outlet asked me for something last week. It wasn’t small. It wasn’t simple. And it wasn’t paid. I said no. These requests aren’t just misguided, they’re disrespectful to writers. If you care about creative work, professional standards, and where media is heading, watch this. I’ve been writing for 25 years, from Mpls St.Paul Magazine to Food & Wine to now publishing directly to my audience on Substack. I’ve seen this shift happen in real time. If you want more unfiltered conversations like this, that’s what I write about on Spilled Milk.

Himes: I have a theory on how this ends… You’re going to see oil go across $100… Projections for economic growth are going to go down, because that happens when you can’t get oil. And at some point in three or four or five weeks, the president is going to look at the numbers — and he’s going to say this is really not tenable. And he’s going to declare victory and walk away. And maybe the attention of the American public will fade, but what will have been achieved is that you will have replaced a very bad Supreme Leader with his son, who is more radical than he is, and, by the way, committed to the creation of a nuclear weapon.

So sad to share that legendary colorist Tatjana Wood has passed away at the age of 99. Her pioneering painterly touch graced scores of DC & Vertigo series. She was truly one of a kind and a special friend. May her memory be a blessing.

It’s important that you understand what happened last night. Last night, Stephen Colbert interviewed Democratic Texas Senate candidate James Talarico, a candidate who, by all accounts, is on track in the polls to flip Texas blue. In response, Trump’s FCC reportedly threatened CBS if the interview aired. CBS caved and pulled the segment, citing “financial reasons.” In modern American history, no president has been more hostile to free speech than Donald Trump. But censorship always backfires. Here’s the full segment Trump didn’t want you to see.

STARGATE RETURNS! Yes, it’s true.  14 years after the franchise aired its last episode (SGU’s “Gauntlet”), a new Stargate series has been greenlit by Amazon.  And it’s not a reboot or a wholesale reimagining that will wipe the slate clean on 17 seasons and some 350 hours of Stargate history.  It’s a new series that will be the perfect jumping-on point for first-time viewers while, at the same time, honoring the existing past.  And the reason for that is because this new series was created by longtime franchise veteran Martin Gero who worked on SG-1, Atlantis and Universe, writing such notable fan favorites as The Storm, The Eye, Duet, First Strike, Be All My Sins Remember’d and many more. Joining the production of the new series is Brad Wright, co-creator and co-showrunner of all that came before – Stargate SG-1, Atlantis, and Universe.  Martin has kindly offered yours truly a role on the project as well and I have happily accepted. Martin has been developing this show for a while now.  A little over a year ago, he reached out and asked “Want to read something cool?”.  That something, it turned out, was his pilot script for the new Stargate series.  Now I obviously can’t say too much about the content at this point – but I can assure you that it embraces everything that made the original Stargates so great: heart, humor, rich mythology, exploration, action, adventure, compelling/endearing characters, and that overall sense of optimism and fun that made you fall in love with Stargate. You are all in for a treat. Eventually. Now putting this production together is going to take some time even though Martin has already done a lot of the preliminary heavy lifting, writing the pilot script and series overview that details the show, its world and characters, as well as his plans for the first season and beyond.  Between now and the series premiere somewhere down the line, the writers room must be assembled, stories need to be spun, scripts written, prep started, crew hired, actors cast and, eventually, a new Stargate series produced. It will take a while but Martin shares my philosophy when it comes to dialing in the fandom, so expect to receive updates throughout the prep, production, and post process.  Concept art, behind-the-scenes photos, videos and insights, breaking news and much much more! Get ready.  We’re heading through the gate one more time. Chevron Eight is locked!

I stood in front of this painting yesterday and everything felt better for a few moments. The Fighting Temeraire, by JMW Turner: the greatest artist ever. What many people don’t think about and what blows my mind, is when you’re stood in front of a painting by Turner, Van Gogh, Monet, Constable or any artist, you are standing exactly where that artist stood. They stood right there looking at their work. Think about it next time you’re stood looking at a painting.

Hell Lane, also known as Shute’s Lane, at Symondsbury in Dorset 🇬🇧 is one of the deepest and best-preserved holloways in Britain, with its sandstone walls cut down to nearly 9 metres below the surrounding fields in places. The word holloway comes from Old English and simply means a sunken road, formed where a route has been used so heavily for so long that it is gradually worn down into the ground. The origins of this route almost certainly go back to prehistory. Tracks in this part of Dorset were already in use by the Bronze Age, and later by the Iron Age Durotriges, the Celtic tribe that occupied much of what is now Dorset, southern Somerset, Devon and parts of Wiltshire before the Roman conquest. As was common across Britain, newer roads and tracks followed the lines of older ones, so a prehistoric route could easily become a medieval and later highway. Over centuries the surface was cut deeper by the passage of feet, hooves and cart wheels, combined with rainwater washing loose material away. This process would have accelerated in the Middle Ages, particularly after the building of Symondsbury church in the 14th century. The nearby name Quarry Hill points to where the building stone was taken from, and that stone would have been hauled along this very lane, grinding it ever further down into the bedrock. Just a short distance away lies Bridport Harbour, now West Bay, which was a long-established port for fishing and trade. Goods from the coast would have been taken inland along routes like this, linking harbour, village and hinterland. The walls of Hell Lane are covered in centuries of scratched names and symbols, a long-running tradition of marking the place that stretches from early travellers to modern visitors. The graffiti forms a kind of informal record of the many people who have passed through this narrow cutting. Dorset’s coastline was also a centre of smuggling in the 17th and 18th centuries, and figures such as Isaac Gulliver made their fortunes running contraband from secluded beaches to inland markets. Sunken lanes like Hell Lane, hidden from view and difficult to patrol, were ideal for moving goods such as gin, tea, silk and lace away from the coast without attracting attention. Today, the lane feels almost like a trench cut through time, preserving thousands of years of movement, trade and daily life in its walls and floor. © MedievalHistoria #archaeohistories
