You’re so lucky! I have heard that phrase thousands of times during the past two decades. I like the word fortunate better than luck, but let’s stick with luck for this post. The good news is that being lucky is a teachable skill. And I can teach you how to create your own luck. This is a long post – so bookmark it to refer back to. I won’t keep you waiting for multiple posts…this time. 😅 Here’s how to attract luck into your life with examples from a lucky guy: Be Curious: Ask lots of questions about how stuff works. If you wonder about how a business or someone’s career works – ask them. People love to talk about themselves and what they do. I once asked a guy how his software company worked, and after an hour’s conversation, we became partners. This led to me having a number one book on Amazon. You never know where the luck is hiding. Help Others: Learn the Law of Reciprocity. When I was in college, I couldn’t get a tech job, so I volunteered to help a business owner. He taught me a ton and set me on the path to owning 10 companies over 25 years. Be Social: On X, you should send DMs to people who create content you like. Tell them you like their content and start a conversation. Do the same in real life. Building your network will exponentially increase your chances of being “lucky.” I once met a guy at a funeral, of all places. We talked for an hour and later started a business together that generated millions of dollars in revenue. Say Yes More: Experiment and try new things—work on being comfortable with embarrassing yourself. Everyone sucks at the beginning! I got asked to take over a business handling high-end watches. I knew nothing about the watch business. I said yes, and that led to over $ 18M in watch sales. Ask For Help: When you don’t know what to do, how to do it, or where to get something, find the person who can help and ask them. Most people love to help others succeed, especially successful people! When I wanted to start a business to pay for my kids’ education, I contacted @davehamilton to see if he thought a website for daily tech deals would be worth starting. I get tons of DMs asking, “do you think this will sell?”, and 75% of the time, the honest answer is: probably not for the price you want it to sell for. What looks like a “great deal” to a buyer can, and often is, a terrible investment for a reseller. As a luxury reseller, you have to take off the consumer hat. It’s not just about price or aesthetics. It’s about market demand, saturation, usability, reputation, and all the little details most people don’t think about. Calculate in the selling platform fees and well, you’ll see that the math just isn’t math-ing. 😏 So yes, these bags are pretty. But pretty doesn’t always pay. After every sale, once the item is delivered, send the buyer a short message: "Hey 👋 Just circling back to thank you for your purchase. If you think I've earned it, I'd appreciate a 5 star review.
