“These plaques represent the human remains of soldiers who died for our freedom.” Edmonton police need your help locating World War One memorial plaques stolen from Edmonton Cemetery. Known to collectors as death pennies or dead man pennies, the plaques have little monetary value but are of great historical significance. The plaques were given to the families of soldiers whose bodies could not be returned to Canada after the war. Police believe collectors may have purchased the plaques online, not knowing they were stolen. Police want to return the plaques to the soldiers’ families. If you have any information or have purchased a plaque yourself, please contact Crime Stoppers or call the EPS non-emergency line at 780-423-4567. @CityofEdmonton @CrimeStoppersAB

⚠️ SCAM ALERT ⚠️ The CPS is warning businesses about a potential scam following reports of individuals impersonating regional managers & instructing employees to deposit money into a bitcoin ATM. Several downtown businesses have reported losses ranging from hundreds to thousands of dollars. 📍 Between February & March 2023, it is believed scammers posing as regional managers have targeted businesses such a liquor stores & coffee shops. They claim there is an urgent issue with their parcel delivery & pressure employees, threatening termination if they do not comply. The employees are then directed to withdraw cash from the business’s safe & deposit it into a bitcoin ATM. In one incident, it is believed an individual posing as a district manager contacted a business employee, claiming the store was receiving a new Point of Sale (POS) system & there was an issue with the shipment. Shortly after, the employee received a call from someone impersonating the delivery driver. The employee then received a text message from an individual impersonating the store manager, instructing them to withdraw cash from the business safe. The employee subsequently sent a bitcoin payment to the wallet address for the delivery of the new POS system. 💬 “These fraudsters often pose as legitimate figures, using urgency & threats to manipulate victims into compliance. Always verify the identity of the caller & consult a trusted source before taking any action. Businesses who encounter such a scam are encouraged to report it to the police.” 💬 — Sgt. Nick Wilsher of the CPS Crime Prevention Team To protect yourself & businesses from imposter scams, we have provided crime prevention tips & tips from the The Better Business Bureau (BBB). More information can be found in the release. Information? ☎️ CPS: 403-266-1234 🛑 @stopcrimeyyc ⚖ Case #: Case # CA25109401 / CA25109280 / CA25066722 | 6063 🌐 newsroom.calgary.ca/police-warn-bu…

We are aware of the video circulating online depicting the arrest of an individual by the Calgary Police Service. The video relates to a situation that occurred in the afternoon of Monday, March 10, 2025, when a patrol officer in Castleridge observed an equipment violation on a vehicle & attempted to engage the person in the car. The person verbally dismissed the officer & entered a nearby store. The officer entered the store to continue the conversation, however, to avoid the situation escalating, the officer decided to wait outside. When the driver came out, he refused to co-operate with the officer or to provide identification, despite being asked multiple times. The officer attempted to deescalate the situation & gain voluntary cooperation for what is ordinarily a brief & innocuous encounter. Ultimately, the officer was forced to arrest the individual & in effecting the arrest, they were met with resistance. Additional officers responded to the scene to assist their colleague & bring the situation under control. We appreciate that videos depicting use of force can be uncomfortable to watch. It is important to note that this video only depicts a small portion of the entire interaction – the part where the individual was arrested. The posted video does not depict the entire interaction or what led up to officers having to use force. In Calgary, we train & equip our officers well & they are well-versed in their authorities to engage with, detain or arrest individuals. It is unfortunate that this situation escalated to the point that force had to be used. If an individual involved in a situation with police feels they were not dealt with appropriately, we encourage them to contact our Professional Standards Section. As the community is aware, our officers are issued body-worn cameras, all of which will provide additional recordings of the entire event & not one small snippet.

Kudos to the new speaker of the house Greg Fergus. He's trying to talk to the members about decorum and they can't even show any while he's trying to address the issue. It's about time that all members start acting more professional, courteous and respectful to one another.

If you make a reservation and can’t make it please have the common courtesy to cancel the reservation. It takes mere moments. Not even 7:00 and have had 3 no shows. 8 seats. In a 59 seat restaurant. Small business is hard enough right now without this lack of courtesy. Thanks.
