@Running_Ryan @flugempire I kind of get that idea but those schools wouldn’t be the top draws to them, I’m talking like they would round up Miami, FSU, ND, Clemson, and it would be both those conf working in tandem which will unfortunately screw over the other current ACC and Big 12 members

The problem is the SEC won’t expand past the central time zone and the B1G presidents want additions based on research prestige and not ratings. Schools like TT, BYU, TCU, and NC State would get left behind while low football draws like UVA, UNC, GT, or even Cal get included. It just perpetuates and doesn’t solve the current problem for networks and they end up paying more than ad buy revenue can support.
The dynamic is way too complicated for the networks to control. Plus even the bottom dwellers in the B1G and SEC will resent being buried in ratings and could get left behind altogether if private equity ever tried to form an elite conference from the top brands of the SEC and B1G.

@Running_Ryan @flugempire That’s the thing though, they wouldn’t care about every school in those conferences, only select ones that generate them more money, so they would get the select few to the SEC and Big ten and then dispose of the ACC and Big 12 entirely

No they wouldn’t. Who is going to fill the weekday and late night inventory for it? Making the Big 12 and ACC irrelevant torpedoes ad revenue for those time slots. ESPN makes a ton of money off that and it might actually have a higher margin percentage after the SEC reworks its deal to maximize its own value.

It will backfire massively. Alienate 40% of your audience at your peril. People rarely adopt college football teams without a direct connection. Those 40% won’t watch the SEC or B1G if their teams are no longer impacted by them in the rankings or playoffs. It also plummets the value of the ACC, Big 12, AAC, MW, SBC, MAC, and C-USA inventory (the 40% of viewers I mentioned). Alienating customers and torpedoing the value of their revenue producing assets is not something smart businesses do and I doubt ESPN signs off on that. Don’t expect its cooperation.
Breaking away will ensure neither the SEC nor B1G get anti-trust exemption. It also means tax exempt status of member schools will be challenged (as it should be). The arrogance of those two conferences is astonishing. Bullying everyone else is no longer going to be tolerated. Blow the system up. Make our day because you SEC and B1G folks will get all the blame.

Long story short, is everybody in college football can get their ass handed to them.
The SEC knows this, and doesn't want to risk more post season losses, especially to Big 12 & ACC teams.
That's why they're the only conference against a 24 team playoff.

@JarheadFrog @SECSupremacyCFB What point do you think this makes. All I see is a 5th seed being dismembered by a one seed. That’s kinda a big point in why a 24 team playoff is an awful idea. The top 2-3 teams are far better than the rest of college football. You just showed why it’s a terrible idea.

I think the top three are pretty spot on. I will say, though, I think Marshall and Coastal Carolina will help make the Sun Belt East very interesting this fall.
I really like the coaching hire for Coastal, so even if it's not immediately a success, I think the Chants improve.
