@LeighSeattle @intheringoffire % of income measures sacrifice. Dollars kept measures burden. Outcomes measure results. I use all three because the question is complicated. Using only one is how you get a framework that condemns every state in America simultaneously.

@minty_hawk @intheringoffire Every one of your replies switches the metric - dollars, federal, outcomes - anything but % of income because that’s where your argument loses.

@LeighSeattle @intheringoffire “Changes the subject” is a tell. The subject is the total tax burden on Washington families, not the subset of that burden that produces the preferred conclusion. Choosing to play games re: which taxes count is not methodology. It is advocacy.

when ITEP rates every state (+ DC) as regressive, that really is a framing issue. We live in a country with federal subsidiarity that the study just plain forgets. when you add in federal rates, even by your own standards every one of those locations (incl WA) become wildly progressive. this matters because that's also how services are dispensed.

@LeighSeattle @intheringoffire We pay for social services in dollars, not rates. Without those dollars, you have no services to speak of, and then those most struggling are really, truly screwed.

@SZBishop77 According to Brandi “99% of stories about ICE are fake.” Guess what - 99% of people in WA state think Brandi is a lying grifter.

@LeighSeattle @intheringoffire I agree the rate is too high for those who can least afford it. I’m all for gutting the consumption taxes that make life in WA hard for working families.

@minty_hawk @intheringoffire You’re comparing dollars to rates - one tracks income, the other burden. Only one tells you if the system is fair and it’s not the one that just rewards having more money.

The "Regressive" label only works if you look at the Rate in a vacuum. By ITEP’s own math, the top 20% in WA pays ~50% of the state’s total tax revenue. The bottom 20% pays ~5%. (actual $ rev) The rate is regressive; the $ contribution is highly progressive. One pays the percentage, the other pays the bill.

I am so proud that I even got up and dressed, let alone made it to this chair in one piece. Today, we are doing things to see if we cannot get past a lot of this pain. I'm hopeful today. I keep pushing on and I keep getting the same result of "oh hell no I think I'm better just sitting here all day" That's not going to work.

Congressman, why aren’t Jews allowed to use this program? Because your party has an antisemitism problem. And, as you now, you don’t have to have been a victim of *any* discrimination to benefit from this. You just have to be from a background your party finds politically beneficial to pander to.

This administration would prioritize wokeness over homelessness. By launching an investigation to limit Washington’s Covenant Homeownership Program, Donald Trump is targeting individuals from historically marginalized communities who have experiencing housing discrimination in the past. Their priorities are completely out-of-whack. We should be doing more to help our communities access housing, not strike down provisions because of DEI. seattletimes.com/business/real-…

"Nobody loves tariffs, but if you use them effectively, you do end up with better trading arrangements, whether it’s services or things manufactured," says @WAGOP Chairman Rep. @JimWalshLD19. "The businesses I talk to are worried more about the cost of doing business here in this state: the Business and Occupation Tax [and] the bevy of different sales taxes." And let's not forget @GovBobFerguson recently signed into law the largest tax increase in WA state history. On Monday he also signed an unconstitutional and illegal state income tax—both will be much more financial burdensome than tariffs which are used only in the short term @KOMO. komonews.com/news/local/bus…

Voting in Washington state is a farce. @GovBobFerguson. Truth is: You don't believe in election integrity. You have @secstatewa Steve Hobbs doing your bidding and allowing illegible voters to cast ballots—including criminal illegals and dead people. Everyone remembers Rossi v. Gregoire. And btw, your TDS is pathological. @wethegoverned @TheJusticeDept @AAGDhillon @JimWalshLD19 @WAGOP @letsgowa @WaHouseGOP @WashingtonSRC @future42org @WAPolicyCenter

@AGOWA Nick Brown likes to play make-believe that he's the good guy. Nothing could be further from the truth. He not only supports illegal sanctuary state policies that protect criminal illegals while putting innocent victims in harms way, he's not prosecuting WA daycares that have committed massive fraud at taxpayer expense. As for 2020, we all know President Trump won. And there's nothing lawless about his EO.
Attorney General Nick Brown@AGOWA

AG Brown: “It’s no surprise that the same man that claims he won the 2020 election and advances nonsense conspiracy theories now wants total control over elections, but he has no authority here – a fact already reaffirmed by the courts in this administration's ongoing attacks on the right to vote.” Read AG Brown’s full statement on the President’s latest unlawful executive order attempting to exert control over elections: ow.ly/iSpI50YBU2q

This image was taken at the “No Kings” protest in Union Gap, the event was supported by Yakima Democrats. I cannot believe anyone thought this kind of imagery was appropriate. Whatever our political differences may be, there should be a line our community does not cross. Symbols that appear to glorify violence, dehumanization, or political hatred have no place in civic discourse. We are a nation built on debate, elections, and the peaceful exchange of ideas, not intimidation, not spectacle, and not imagery that evokes harm. Yakima County deserves better than this. We can disagree strongly, even passionately, without abandoning decency, respect, and the principles that hold our communities together. Leadership requires more than anger. It requires principle. That standard should apply to everyone.
