One small correction to this superb video by @uapdog: Bodhidharma (Daruma) was not “Indian.” He was an Iranian. Specifically, a Scythian. Even if he was from the territory now corresponding to northern India, he would have been a Kushan – a Scythian. But he was more likely from Gandhara or the part of Khorasan that is now the artificial country of ‘Afghanistan.’ This was Eastern Iran, which is where Mahayana Buddhism comes from. Actually, as I argue in IRANIAN LEVIATHAN, Buddhism in general (not just Mahayana) was originally an Iranian (not an Indian) religion and Gautama Sakamuni himself was a Scythian (Saka).

An excellent introduction to one deep engagement with Eastern thought in my corpus. A concern with non-Western thought and mysticism reemerges repeatedly in my work, for example in NOVEL FOLKLORE and IRANIAN LEVIATHAN. Any real philosopher today has to be a global thinker.

Looking at things like this help to better explain why leftists freaked out so much about Trump building a new ball room or restoring the reflecting pool. It’s not actually just about Trump and them opposing literally everything he does. It’s something much deeper, as here they are having the same reactions here.
I believe that leftists get extremely up in arms over restoration efforts because on a subconscious level they seek destruction and decay and take pleasure in that, and seeing any kind of restorative efforts and beautification like this hits them somewhere at the core of their being and they lash out heavily as they see this as a fundamental attack to themselves at their core.
This is also why they are not worth bothering trying to persuade. It’s not a matter of theory, ideas, or ideology. These things are just outward facing expressions and thoughts that reflect their inner self, which is dedicated towards decay, destruction, and the tearing down and reshaping of everything decent.

I had this feeling for a while now. I told this to @LevPo months ago. I think people have legit reasons to be mad about casting and other details. But I think people are jumping to conlusions way too soon before even seeing the film.

First thoughts on The Odyssey. There is a scene at the very beginning of the film in which, in the absence of his father, Telemachus is being trained by the blind Eumaeus, Odysseus’s loyal servant. Eumaeus warns that the reason Telemachus is constantly being bested by his sparring partner is that his defense is too quick. He must move more slowly, open his chest, invite the attack, and use his opponent’s momentum against him. In the spirit of Odysseus, deep trickery is at work in this film. Don’t let the apparent compromises fool you. The Odyssey is an absolute triumph. It is made with a profound love for the source material, filled with deep pathos: the return of the father, the elevation of the son, and the restoration of proper order despite all the sins perpetrated by the guardians of that order. It is a film about the end of one world and the beginning of another; about remembrance, return, and the perpetuation of an order after a long wandering through chaos. It’s The Odyssey.

The upside of this, however, is that the road is a lot less cluttered for people with real will in shaping the future.
