@TurnipRail @mellotrono @anthonyabdool And to follow up that article, I have one on the way that shows how in the late 60's and 70's, BR did attempt to frame the train as an emancipator of women ("Travel Inter-City Like The Men Do" - obviously built as a subset of male travel, but the attempt was there nonetheless!)

I'm writing a lecture and will be using this ad from 1979. I still think that it is one of the best things British Rail produced, from an era when there was growing concern over unconstrained car use and a desire to find alternatives. As I said before, it goes for the jugular.
