@jimgeraghty Did you read the post? He's just saying its a cool picture of soldiers in combat with a dog. I dislike Platner and won't vote for him. But this is ridiculous.

@MeghanEMurphy @walterbball Unfortunately, most people don't like to change and self-reflect. This is made worse by the ubiquity of misogynistic, violent porn, which trains men to falsely believe their partners are withholding something from them by not behaving like the actors on PornHub.

@MeghanEMurphy @walterbball If men try to learn and self-reflect, they can replace the resentment toward their wife with a motivation to change. It'll likely result in more and better intimacy.

The honest truth is that a lot of married women and women in long-term relationships feel this way. I realize this will anger many men, but it’s pretty normal. I don’t know what the solution is, I just know it’s common

@NancyMace Seniors want it all! 1) Prevent new housing through restrictive zoning 2) Inflate their property values by suppressing supply 3) Erase their property taxes, which have risen because of 1 and 2 Pay up or allow more homes to get built. Values will come down and so will taxes.

@jbarro He hooked up with his brother's widow and got her addicted to crack. Rock solid guy. Amazing that Hunter and Jill were two of the principal advisors to a cognitively disabled President.

I just want to note for the record that Hunter Biden continues remains a selfish egomaniac even after he got sober. People ascribed too much of the blame for his bad behavior to the drugs.

Regarding some feedback on the Fetterman side of this: People focus too much on Fetterman's ideology and miss the fact that he simply is not good at being a senator in classic low-conscientiousness ways. He basically doesn't show up for work.
Josh Barro@jbarro

Why did leftists decide that manifestly low conscientiousness is a mark of "authenticity"? They did it with Fetterman, it blew up in their face, and now they've done it again with Platner: falling in love with an obviously unreliable underemployed weirdo. joshbarro.com/p/low-conscien…

@berkie1 Many towns don’t have clean water or enough water to support the current residents. Adding housing would make the situation worse. Why can’t building make starter homes?? Why do we have keep building these apartments that look that shipping containers with windows?

Across Massachusetts, towns are spending millions to take developable land off the market and block future housing and economic growth. Many of these same communities are struggling to fund schools, infrastructure, and basic services while giving up millions in future tax revenue.

@caroljsroth Bernie has managed to pass three bills he's sponsored. Two were for renaming post offices. He is useless as a legislator. Last year, he killed a single-handedly killed a bill funding research of pediatric cancer.

Bernie is building a hedge: promoting legislation to block AI data centers AND also promoting confiscating ownership of AI if it’s successful. He must have learned a few things hanging out with Pelosi…
Bernie Sanders@BernieSanders

I will soon be introducing a bill to give the public a 50% ownership stake in the largest AI companies in America. This would guarantee that the trillions created by AI are used to improve the lives of all of us — and block oligarch decisions that harm the American people.

@jonfavs Platner is an attractive guy. He looks and sounds like the archetypal antagonist in every spicy romance women gobble up. He obviously uses this to his advantage to get women's attention. With a long Reddit history and a Kik account, the real number is closer to 100.

@jonfavs Platner has demonstrated a reckless pattern of behavior. Inevitably, explicit messages—some with nude photos—will come out. Will you be comfortable supporting him then? And if the number his wife knows is a dozen, the actual number is much higher.

I'd just say that if the reason you don't want to support a candidate is because he and his wife chose not to share that they went through marriage counseling to deal with infidelity, that's your choice. But I do think there are other factors in the race that will have more of a direct impact on your life.

New: More than a dozen Maine voters told me that their support for Graham Platner isn't wavering after his latest scandal. “I want a senator, not a saint. I want policy action, not gossip,” one voter said. 🧵🧵🧵 of their reactions:

@JonahDispatch This article is a perfect reflection of the blond support given to Platner. He has no relevant experience, consistently demonstrates severe character flaws, and has no plans for accomplishing anything. But ignore all of that. This article is much better: open.substack.com/pub/stephanieb…

Best thing I’ve read from a Platner supporter — because it’s honest about his moral failings (or at least some of them) and honest about the often cynical and mercenary reasoning of those supporting him. Personally, I disagree with the calculation — if a candidate is unacceptable they’re unacceptable — but people will draw lines differently. open.substack.com/pub/theargumen…

@magi_jay The stupidity of these people to hurl such a flawed person into the race is unconscionable. But it reflects the general stupidity of a party that is capable of only bad decisions.

@magi_jay I live in Maine. What bothers me is Platner was so obviously manufactured. Last August, a polished IG ad appeared in my feed touting a working class veteran. No one has the money or media skills to pull that off alone. Some consultancy chose this guy and heaved him onto Maine.

I thought about the claim that I am "obsessed" with Graham Platner last night. Am I obsessed with Graham Platner? The truth is: I'm not. I think he's boring. But I think I am "obsessed"--or at least hyper-focussed--w/ how little others care about things that I think should matter

@jimgeraghty If you have done this with a dozen women early in your marriage and your account is still active, it means there are dozens of women—some he likely met up with—and he may have been doing this while campaigning.

Grähäm Plätner launched his U.S. Senate campaign in Maine on August 19; as I wrote this weekend, “this is a long-forgotten youthful indiscretion from last summer.” The last married candidate whom I can remember pledging that he had stopped online sexual communications with six to ten women was former congressman Anthony Weiner. Things turned out very badly for him.

Which isn’t to say I don’t clock the concerns. Marital problems should be private, and I do think it’s gross than a former campaign staffer leaked this. But joining an app early in your marriage to sext with half a dozen women suggests to me a concerning level of impulse control and something else (megalomania? The constant need for approval and validation? Trauma that makes you unconsciously sabotage good relationships? I dunno, but something is going on there and I hope therapy is helping). Unlike, say, Trump or Paxton of Swallwell, there was no abuse of power here, even if there was abuse of his wife’s trust (and having her be the one to publicly respond… god I hate when men do that). Point being: Platner’s critics are concerned that he’s showing a similar pattern to people like Fetterman, who was waving red flags no one wanted to see. I think they have a point. Platner’s supporters argue that this is a gross violation of his family’s privacy, is the kind of sexual prudery that characterized the Bill Clinton scandal, and should have nothing to do with whether one supports Platner over Susan Collins. And I think they have a point too.

The Graham Platner story is landing because it confirms a bunch of his critics’ prior concerns: unvetted, history of poor decision-making, the kind of light misogyny that tends to go along with male bad decision-making. Those are all problems! But it’s worth asking if they’re problems that should be disqualifying for a senate seat and I think the answer to that is no.

Just curious.... Of all the platforms for messaging, why this one, Platner? Why did you choose to create and maintain an account on Kik, a platform that has been the subject of extensive reporting involving child exploitation, anonymous sexual activity, and predatory behavior?

In case you’re wondering, Graham Platner’s profile on the child exploitation app Kik is still active and this is still his profile picture. See here: kik.me/phustle0331
